Google, Google, and more Google

It seems everyone in the blogosphere was talking about the big “G” last week, to include our members here. I’ve highlighted a couple of the discussion threads:
- Google PR Updated Possibly - JohnC first noticed a few changes on Monday. Several people commented how they had seen some sites with reduced PR but no one else had seen the increase…yet.
- Google declaring war on blog networks - On Wednesday we started discussing how many sites that belong to blog networks were being penalized.
- Google definitely messing with PR - On Thursday, DeronSizemore noticed some changes on one of his sites that was in development.
- Its finally happened, Oh long last PR - Yesterday KingJacob brought to all of our attention, the climax we had been waiting for. The PR was in fact happening.
I made a comment in one of the posts that Google is like Lucy from Peanuts, always pulling away the football from Charlie Brown (the webmasters and bloggers). At times it seems like Google rules us and that definitely shouldn’t be the case. Google just has such a large percentage of the SE traffic that it would be stupid to ignore it. At least we have some kind of resolution to the mystery, “will there ever be an update.”
What else is new around here? Well, we saw a lot of activity this past week here in the community. This week we had 30 new registrations and we reached 10,000 posts! I guess you could say we’ve had a lot to talk about! In addition to all of the activity in the blog forum, we’ve released some great and free WordPress themes for our members.
This week should be good for bloggers. Halloween gives you a chance to have a little fun with your blog and November 1 marks the start of NaBloPoMo or National Blog Posting Month. I’ll leave you with a couple of questions:
- Were you affected by the latest PR update?
- Are you brave enough to sign up for NaBloPoMo? (I’m not!}

I ain’t scared o’ no NaBloPoMo! But it almost seems pointless to sign up for something that challenges you to post every day for a month, when you post every day, anyway.
And the Google thing: If every Blogger who is actually concerned about Google’s share of the search market would spread their own search traffic around to other engines, it just might level the playing field a bit. Just sayin’…
P.S. Congrats on the phenomenal growth!

I don’t think that the PR has any value in itself…its the traffic that matters. Has there been a downturn in traffic on the penalised sites?
I think G were sending a message as much as anything, or a shot over the bow perhaps…

The weird thing is shortly after, I went up +2, after having gotten a -1!
I monitored my LivePR from a few sites, and can’t understand how some of the locations involved picked me up that high. They’ve diminished down to a 2, one by one so that I’m again at a PR2 now.
I also had two other sites that went strongly up by +2, both of which the only difference in monetizing was I didn’t have any PPP bubble disclaimers on paid entries.
I’ve also started a new technique that other bloggers might find useful. When making contact with potential partners, apply as normal. When there’s no contact; due to a low PR rank; contact by email and emphasize what STRONG aspect the blog has that draws it’s readers.
I’ve gained two partners this way also, since the last PR dance.
Keep your spirits up, and just BLOG guys and gals! We were here before Google! We are the internet! We are the ones giving THEM jobs!
Feel the Force, and thanks so much Sara for mentioning my mentioning.
