Clicking on Comment URLs, Beefing Up Short Posts, and More
October 21st, 2007 by ses5909Looks like you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed so you don't miss a single conversation! Thanks for visiting!
While I’ve been busy trying to get our WordPress theme gallery ready, our members have been busy chatting up a storm as usual. Here are some of the latest highlights:
- Who clicks on URLs in comments? - Shyflower asked a great question about who clicks on commenters links from blogs that aren’t your own! When I see a good comment on someone else’s blog, I do check it out and I hope when I leave thoughtful comments, that people besides the site owner will check mine out. What do you do?
- How do you beef up short posts? - I was curious what were some ways to beef up short posts; I know I use images if I can. The conversation eventually led to, “Should you beef up short posts” which is definitely an interesting question. What are your thoughts?
- What do you do when you can’t see the text? - tater03 asked us what would we do if we were reading a blog and the text was just so hard to read because of the colors the blog uses. It’s kind of like asking what do you do when you see someone with their zipper down or toilet paper sticking on their show. We should all help them out and send them an email as they may not know!
There are a couple of things right around the corner. Is anyone doing anything for Halloween? Also, Jess pointed out that in November is NaBloPoMo. If you don’t know (and I didn’t), in order to participate, you need to commit to blogging every day of the month of November. That’s a pretty big commitment! Are you up for it?
Thanks to all of the members who make this a great place to come every day (multiple times). You rock!

In response to the third question, what do you do when you can’t read the text? I simply leave, and fast. It’s one of my biggest peeves when it comes to reading online. Looking at a monitor is enough of an eye-strain without having to squint to read tiny text, or text that isn’t contrasted enough against the background.
Dark text on a white background is always best, just like you have here, Sara.

I often click on links to commenters’ home pages & the RSS feeds option in the post footer on some forums. I’ve come across many of my regularly-visited sites and/or subscibed feeds this way.

@David - that is what I used to do too, but once I thought that maybe it was akin to just walking past someone with tp hanging from their skirt, I figured an email was the least I could do. On their monitor the site may look great so they may not know it’s hard to read.
@Rob O. - Same with me. It’s a great way to find new blogs to read!

That’s a good point, Sara, and if you take the time to do that for every poor site you see, it’s testament to the success you’ll achieve.
I’ve got my hands full responding to the comments on my blog, so time’s at a premium. Fair play to you though.

I like to view everyone elses blogs aswell as mine - I like to read about what everyone else has been up to, even strangers
