View Full Version : Where's Your Favicon?

I'm a huge Firefox user and it's not uncommon for me to have 20-30 tabs up at a time. My main way of distinguishing from one tab to the next is through site's favicons (those little icons that show up in front of a site's name on a tab or in bookmarks). It's not a problem if a place doesn't have one, but it does create a mental note to go back to the site when I notice the icon still up. It adds a personal touch and makes a place recognizable by sight.
So where's yours? ;) :'"
(Just google favicon to find instructions on how to do it or I have quick instructions (http://quirkyjessi.blogspot.com/2007/05/how-to-change-your-favicon-in-blogger.html) if there are any bloggers who want to change theirs, especially those who use Blogger and automatically have the same orange favicon as every other Blogger user. It takes less than five minutes if you already have a picture/icon you want to use.)
I used to have one of the Scottish Saltire when I was trying to get a Scottish blog/site up. I've been meaning to look for a nice camera picture I can convert to a favicon, but haven't gotten around to it yet.

Mine are all there :D
But I agree, i think it is very important for a site to have.

No, no, no. I know this was moved to a blogging forum, but I put it exactly where I meant it to be...in the suggestion/feedback forum....because I was talking about The Blog Experiment's favicon, or rather, it's lack of one. I included a link for blogger's to do it, too, in case they saw it and were interested, but my question is directly for TBE....

Im not sure why you're not seeing it. I had that thing up before I even let the site go live (kind of anal about that). I've attached a screenshot. Anyone else not seeing it?

Um, for the main page of TBE, yes, but for the forums, no...which is why I asked about it here in the forums, lol.
~Edit~ I'm new here, so it wouldn't be saved in my cache at all....could it be just that newer users aren't going to see it at all? I'm not having problems with any other sites...
~Edit~ It'll show in IE, too, by the way, so this is solely an issue with Firefox and TBE, not IE. Maybe someone else will pop by and verify that it's not just me. I tried it in Firefox on another computer, too, but the same...

I definitely see it for the forums so I'm not sure what's up.
I re-uploaded it though just in case. Sucks that you can't see it though!

~Switching back to here instead of PMs because I realized I left the thread dangling~
It's finally picked it up in my bookmarks, but it doesn't even hesitate when it comes to being in the tabs...it just isn't there....period. Which is really weird considering it 'does' show in the bookmarks and it should be the same for the tab. I've cleared everything, closed/reopened, etc, multiple times now and it doesn't even pretend that it's going to load a favicon in the tab or in the address bar. What gives? :(

I see it in Firefox (I even stole it once :) ), and I clear my cache every time I close the browser.

Looking at the source code I can't see anything referencing the favicon which I add in as an extra assurance. Of course I may have missed this amongst the CSS. But I tend to use
<link rel="shortcut icon" href="favicon.ico" type="image/x-icon" />
as well just to give that added assurance (usually needed for IE).
But it shows up fine for me in Firefox :)

Thanks Sarah. I'll add that into my vBulletin's header and see what happens.

It works for me as well. There is nothing in the forum page source about it, but there is in the blog. I imagine that the ones who are seeing the icon are the ones who have visited the home page or blog, but if a user has only ever been on the forum, then they won't have it. :)

Well I don't know what changed or if Firefox was just being stubborn, but it finally shows for me. It certainly may have had to do with me not being to the blog/site first....I only visited that once later on to check for the favicon there, and it showed immediately. Huge delay for me to see it here, though, so don't know what happened. It's fixed on my end, but not telling how many other users may only hit up the forum and it not be there (or maybe I'm the only one, lol)....but it's not a big deal either way. Thanks for checking into things for me. :)
