I see bloggers offering to review your's and my blog for $xxx. It seems to be happening more and more and I'm curious what would be the condition to get you to pay someone for an honest review.
So, is this something you do. Would the site need to have a certain PR, would you want to see screenshots of their subscriber count, or stats?

Personally I wouldn't do it, just because my 2 little blogs are just a fun thing for me. And I am learning with it little by little. So, I don't think I would pay anyone for a review!

Nah, I don't think I would do it, but it's evidently a growing trend and lots of people making money from it.
If I did pay for a review, yes I would want to see some hard stats on their visitors, subscribers, etc.

I personally would't pay for a review. But I guess if my blog became somewhat popular I might consider it more just to see what they would have to say.

Aw, hell, no! I can criticize myself, just fine, without paying someone else to do it!

The other day someone offered me money to review their blog and post the review on my blog. I may or may not review their blog, but I don't think I would accept payment if I do. If someone reviews my blog(s) I hope it will be an honest review, telling both what's good and what needs improvement, what they liked and didn't like. For that reason, I don't think I would ever pay someone to review my blog. It wouldn't be much of a review. I think it would be more of a commercial.

Just go ahead and accept the money and send it my way if you don't want it. I won't tell. :naughty:

I would say it's okay to do linda. They aren't paying you for the link, they are paying you for your time and your evaluation. If it sucks, you will be honest and tell them it sucks (in your own eloquent way). I say take the job.

IF and it's a big IF, I had a blog that was only to make money, and it wasn't.....I might ask someone for their opinion.
I wouldn't pay for it though!

I tackled this with 'Opps' at PPP for honest reviews. Funny a few of them required 'Positive' rather than neutral.
I made it clear it was a site review, gave a productive critique of my opinion of how the site kept bounces down and attention focused, and always tried to find something negative and offer a solution.
Almost every one I did ended up getting an email in my inbox genuinely thanking me...except for one...sorry, if I'm making everyone happy I'm not doing my job. :)
But for bloggers, that's a different animal. I don't have a problem hitting 'Blog This' and sharing something with my readers or for my own interests whatsoever. If a blogger DID choose to pay for a review, I'd bend over backwards for them. It's only for that reason that I have the 'Hire Me' badge on the top of my one blog, and the same reason why I'll never go past $10.00 whatsoever.
I'll be the first one to do as many 'Opps', since my regular readers can tell what's 'me' and what's 'paid'.
Didn't mean to go lengthy...in short...
1. Bloggers take care of their own.
2. If someone wants to pay me a $10 spot to spend the time and help them both in traffic and critique I wouldn't generally do, that's fair.
3. If that's unreasonable, then they're free to watch and learn like the rest of us have done, make comments, ask questions publicly, in general be a part of the community, etc.On the stats/rep/etc of myself...my activities in where I participate online are enough...rotflm butt off. Man, that sounds egotistical.

Id never do it for a blog but if I had a service oriented site, I would pay to get reviewed by certain bloggers who I feel are good designers, programmers, etc but Id never buy a review to use it as an ad.

I really don't think I would....at least not on my current blog. It's just not something that's beneficial enough to me, and considering the blog isn't making me any money, then it's probably not my best interest to pour money into it either right now.

Thanks for the honest feedback John. There is definitely a stigma that can get attached to bloggers who make money, but really, I bet when you review their blog and write everything up, you spend at least 2 hours on that. And you charge $10 so that's $5/hour for your time.
Yes LInda, You can always take the money and give it to Deron :D

The point is, I don't want the money and unfortunately, right now I can't reveiw the site since it doesn't fit into either one of my present blogs. I will review it later on another blog I'm working on. However, I will be reviewing a lot of sites of my own choice on that blog and it really isn't kosher to take money for one review when I'm willing to do others for free. So you're out of luck Deron. However, if you post a "buy me a beer" icon on your site.... I'll contribute a dollar. :p

Dang I'm out of luck once again! I don't use WordPress so no "buy me a beer" plugin's available. I'll settle for $100 in my paypal account though. :naughty: :'"
