View Full Version : Have an idea for a blog--is it a good one?

This is a two-parter.
1. I just launched this forum a week ago today (and wow its doing great thanks to you all) but I have learned a TON and been making notes all along the way. My idea is to create a blog dedicated to running a community (obviously from the perspective of a complete novice). I wouldn't post more than once or twice a week probably so I can make sure I can keep up the pace. Can a niche blog survive on that?
2. I have bought two domains:
runningaforum.com and runningacommunity.com
Which do you think is best?

Oh, I would vote for runningacommunity. Yes it is longer, but word 'community' indicates more things than word 'forum'

if your going to talk about this forum/community in particular maybe it would be best to place the word blog or blogging in the domain too :D

Well yes I will talk about this, but I have an entirely unrelated community I will be running eventually too.

Yeah, i was trying to keep SEO in mind for the title too. Most people when looking for a community or forum type in forum according to Google trends. so I'm leaning towards forum..
Even though I see this as a Community.

I vote for ...community also. Though I think either one is just as good as far as SEO goes. :)

I vote for community the other domain would limit you in how you could go and you may have to go down routes, talking about forum plugin issues and all that lagunney.

That's why I voted for forum. I thought it would be better spider food.

Community, hands down. It's just more inviting from an end-user's point of view. Would you rather participate in a forum, or be a member of a community?

Well after a lot of thought.. I did decide to go with Community. A forum will be a really big part of it, but there is much more to it than that.

Can you point runningaforum.com to runningacommunity.com? Have the best of both worlds?

I like that it's shorter and more niche-related than community. Maybe it's just me, but I see a significant difference between a forum and a community. To me a forum is indeed a community, basically, but a community is not necessarily a forum (MySpace, Facebook...). But it all depends on what you feel like writing about...
I wouldn't worry about not writing a great quantity of articles. I think it's always better to go for quality rather than quantity.
Good luck and let us know how it goes :)
