Hi,
I am trying to think of a subject to do for a blog, and one of the things I am interested in is movies and tv shows, I have and watch a lot on dvd and it's something I could write good articles on.
My question is do you think its a good idea to do? Would there be a 'market' for people to wanting to hear my opinions on tv shows and films or would it be a waste of time? I know it's a pretty general question and I suppose I wont know til I try but just wanted to ask your opinions.
I have been thinking all day of what subject to do a blog on, has to be something I am passionate about or know a bit about and thats what I came up with.

Then do it! It's a fantastic idea. The problem your facing is second guessing what others want. Don't.
Do what you like. Blog what's inside of you. Don't worry about the readers the first few entries.
If you follow the advice of what you've been given in the other posts, you'll be leaving breadcrumbs. Those breadcrumbs aren't like yesterdays though...they're not eaten by birds...they stick and last creating paths back to your content!
What you'll find is you're site will slowly at first get readers finding it on searches or following those individual crumbs. Out of a hundred, you might get one person who's a 'fit' for your blog...someone who has like interests, and wants to read sites about TV or movies.
Now you've got someone interested. Engage them. Reply to their comments genuinely. Take a moment and follow their link to their page, and if they're post is one that you genuinely think about, comment on it.
You won't be able to do this regularly sometimes, after you get a high readership, so be careful doling out attention...if you give attention just for visiting your site at first too much, you'll get people leaving when not getting the usual payoff they came to found.
Remember, a regular reader is worth 1000 bounced visits to your site!
I'm sure you'll find many people over time who'll enjoy your blog...but remember...they won't find it if you get discouraged.
Good luck, and put a link in your profile so people can find it.
I couldn't...and I'd wanted so much to find out what's worth watching this week. Don't lose another opportunity. \:D/ :devilhorns: \:D/ [-X

If you build it, they will come. Seriously, there are people out there searching for information on anything and everything. Sure, some niches will have potentially more visitors, but in the end, if you blog about something you enjoy writing about, then others will find it.
You could start a blog about urban farmers licking horse nipples while wearing pantyhose, and you'd still have an audience, albeit a small one I'm sure :D

Everyone is right. If you are passionate about your topic, you will do just fine!

Well, thats the thing, it wont really be about 'whats on this week to watch' either on tv or at the movies, it will be about stuff I watch on dvd, and that stuff is mainly older stuff. (Tho some current stuff too(
I have written 4 posts already in notepad, those articles were on
X-Files
Oz
Best foreign films
Best characters in tv and film

That niche is bigger than you think.

Adalante beat me to it. Loved Oz the most, but finding a site that related to it strongly would give me the confirmation if it was something I should throw down and buy the whole DVD set. (hint hint for your future).
Be. Blog. Carry a PDA with you for when you need to Hurl Blog and spew, catching those often lost tidbits and morsels for later.
You'll be glad ya did!

I have decided to do the blog and see where it takes me, because the blog is about stuff to my tastes tho I wonder if it will take off, but we shall see!

When I started my blog, I did it strictly as a means to learn. My content is personal ramblings, kind of like an online diary. Nothing huge and earth shattering, nothing too personal. But, I wanted an opportunity to get my feet wet before going onto something that would be more for mass consumption. ;)

My primary blog is strictly for friends and family. I use it to keep in touch. I have others on topics ranging from depression to astronomy. I haven't tried one on films or tv shows.

I think that there are plenty of people out there who would like to read your opinions about tv shows and movies. I like to read these occasionally, but there aren't too many good ones out there.

How would you define a good one?

Sorry.
Many entries use a graphic to convey the story of the post. Adding an Amazon.com graphic affiliate link to an Oz DVD set from your entry about Oz would offer your interested readers a chance to shop on impulse immediately, as well as create residual income over time.
It's also easier to hotlink to an Amazon.com affiliate link graphic, than it is to download/edit/crop/upload to server and link your own sometimes.
