It's commenter. I would've gone for the "or", but Dictionary.com disagrees. Commentator, on the other hand implies expertise, writing/speaking as a profession, etc..

ahh good to know. Then my post below is correct:
The Blog Experiment - Join the Conversation Let your commenters know you appreciate them! (http://www.theblogexperiment.com/blog/2007/08/13/let-your-commenters-know-you-appreciate-them/)

I have always seen and used commenters. I have never actually seen anybody refer to them as commentators, but I suppose that I could be wrong.

According to Chambers Dictionary (UK) commenter/commentor does not exist.
You'll find the plugin 'Top Commentators' which I checked on as I always though a commentator was someone who talked about a football match on TV!
Of course, the US English may allow for commenter ;)

Hidden meaning? No I just meant you spell some things different to us. Centre/Center, Colour/Color (note the Programming words!)
And Aubergine/Egg Plant - really don't get that one ;)
So maybe commenter is allowed. I doubt many people would notice otherwise to be honest!

You're right, most people probably wouldn't notice. I just find myself trying to type it several ways and if I'm wrong, I at least want to be consistently wrong :p

I just type commentor, spellcheck nor a grammar nazi never got onto me for it so I hope its right.

I avoided the topic altogether today. At the beginning of the month I like to recognize the top comment(e)(o)(ato)rs for the previous month, but this time I skirted around the word and called them "top contributors."

Haha, "top contributer" is a great way to skirt around the whole confusing situation. That's definitely something that I'm going to do from now on, even though it never bothered me before!

I call them commenters, because it's a smaller word and makes more sense to me personally. :) (They are people who comment => commenters. Commentating makes me think of sports and such.)

When I can't decide, I use some other words.
You can use "stalkers" if you like. :) make it interesting.

According to dictionary.com, it's commenter. Commentor does not exist. I've actually, up until this point, always thought it was suppose to be "commentator" and that's what I've been writing in my titles. A little research goes a long way I guess...I should have done it. :)

One who comments
Visitor who comments
Someone who left a comment
I just use ways around even having to think about it, hehe. I agree that commenter is what I'd likely use if I had to, though.

Good grief.... now we have to decide which is right.... contributer or contributor! :sigh
(My dictionary says commenter. Although commentator is similar, as mentioned, it does imply expertise... and it says 'or' is right for contributor)
commentor, commenter, or commentator
The first one is a spelling error with FireFox Spell Checker but then so is FireFox. I just go with what it tells me so I don't have to think about it :D
