MBL brings some traffic to the site...nothing sigificant; although I'm sure if I tried to network more on there it would

There is also Blog Catalog which alot of people like, but I haven't tried yet.

I use it, but only because I like seeing who's visiting my site. I do know that I have gained some regular readers by simply having an account and reading other blogs though. I find that people are very prone to click on a new face that pops up on their site widget, and some of those turn into regular readers.

I do have an account with MBL, but I still haven't placed who's visiting on my blog. Ocasionally, I will get some readers from there, but nothing that I should count in regular ones.

The part about people clicking on your face is very true. They say with blogging it is important to put your picture on your blog so your audience can identify with you more.

I think the bloggers like seeing the people who read their blog. Helps to know your audience a bit better if you can see what their sites are, etc.

I agree. As soon as I stumble of some good blog post, I check out about me page. It's always good to know who wrote it.

Mybloglog worked really well for me at first when I actively promoted using it, but now I seem to either a) spend more time constructing quality posts or b) doing work for clients.

I still keep mybloglog up on the website though, I do really like to see who is visiting. I love being able to put names with faces.

Another thing I like to do that I forgot to mention is I use the mybloglog widgets to try and find new readers. What I mean by that, is I will visit blogs in my niche that display the images on their site and I look for new faces. A lot of times you will see many of the same people but when I notice someone new I click on it and go to their mybloglog profile.

From there, I also see if they have a blog and I'll visit it. I may not even be interested in their topic, but what this does is it sticks my ugly mug in their mybloglog and since they haven't seen me before guess what they do? They click it and find their way to my site.

This usually works quite well because if I saw them initially on a site with a similar topic as mine, chances are if they liked what they saw there they will like what they see on my site, which hopefully turns into a regular reader or feed subscriber.

i prefer blogcatalog than mybloglog... blogcatalog is much more user friendly and members are nice. while mybloglog i registered myself long time ago before BC, and i have no friends from it. dont why its like empty :)... blogcatalog increase my traffic.

elfreakz, did you put the javascript of MyBlogLog in your Header.php in Wordpress?

MyBlogLog is a very useful widgets if you wanna get to know more friends and expand your network but for me, I kind of prefer to have my privacy. For example if I view my enemy's blog, I don't wanna ruin his/her day when he/she sees my face at MyBlogLog then goes on whining about how disgusting I am. Haha

I don't have blogcatalog because i didnt want to be forced to put their widget in my sidebar. I think you have to with them.

Cedric

Yep! Sometimes too much widgets will drive your readers away. When I was first exposed to this blogging thing, I had many widgets in my blog like my virtual "PETS", some useless "SIGNBOARDS"... Then slowly my friend told me that they have problem loading the page and that's when I know how to cut them out.

Believe me, when I said ENEMIES, I mean really BAD people and to avoid seeing their faces in my blog, I just decided to get their looks outta my face. LOL

i don't use MBL. i believe the usage of MBL really depends on your preference and of course more importantly the purpose of your site.

I am hopeless with MBL I would put the widget on my site if I bothered to learn how.I am so bad with all of that marketing stuff. But I do like to see my face on people's widgets.I am so backward that I click MY face and go back to my MBL!
I am just not the ideal user,I guess.

I use it and like it for the same reasons as Jeremy. I like seeing new faces pop up on my blog and I know when I see a new face I check out their site which I'm sure when my avatar pops up on someone's blog, they do the same. It's brought me some decent traffic with some regular readers.

It's also fun to see the faces (or icons) you are familiar with in the same places as you!

I use it. it's nice since I get some traffic and can also find some good blogs among others who are not worth my time :D

Overall it's been a positive experience ;)

I chose MBL due to it's similiarity to the now dead Modblog.com community's similiar 'last visited' widget. It was all I was looking for at the time. I actually connected with most of my business contacts due to networking through MBL.

MBL offers what many geeks want, who've cut their teeth years ago on the internet. The forums I get involved in for the long haul are ones that are of benefit to me, as well as others I can either mentor too or be menteed. MBL's a good starting point to find people to go back to their places and hang...rather than in any forum MBL could have, where any member with any interest could come in and disrupt.

Many of my peers have left BlogCatalog Forum usage, yet retained their widget simply for traffic purposes. MBL and BL widget both on a blog takes up much real estate in my opinion, especially when many faces are duplicated in each.

You should go sign up. It's a nice way to put a face (or avatar) to the name. It's also a great way to network and pick up extra traffic.

I completely agree with Paul here. MyBlogLog is one of those must-haves for a blogger i think..unless you are one of those people who speak just to hear themselves speak.

Yes it seems quite a nice place to make new contacts. I make a point of just randomly visiting different profiles once a week, it's suprising who you bump into. As the above post stated I came here via MBL and joined simply because you seem like a cool bunch with no flaming going on.:)

Careful, lol. Tony B and others from BlogCatalog have a tendency of longwindedness on anyone's post that doesn't show them love. I did an entry (http://tinyurl.com/24jvd5) about one such problem on a friend's site.

Hilarious...if it was actually BC owners/staff, they're acting as childish as Modblog.com admin did years ago...before the kiddie project disappeared.
