When you started your blog, did you provide an introduction post letting people know what your blog was about and give them some background info on you? What do you think about these posts?
I do them myself and I like to read them. It helps to set the tone of the blog, I think.

Naa, I went straight into content. I wrote 8 articles (I think) before I actually started publicising my blog. It wouldn't have made much sense for me to write an introductory post when no-one was actually there to read it at the time. :)

I didn't but I figure that's what the about page is for ;)

I have done this in the past. As I generally never have content ready when I launch a new site. :)

Likewise. Everything I would have said in an introductory post, I had already written in my About post. :)

It was ages before I did an about page, or even put my name anywhere. A writer I have long admired happened upon my blog, and wrote me an admonishing email -- put on a copyright notice! Put on your name!
After checking to be sure it was really him, I complied.

And -- there's another kind of "Introductions Post" -- depending on what kind of blog you have -- I have an "Introduce Yourself" post, that's linked at the top of my sidebar (on Watermark) for my readers/ visitors to introduce themselves. I asked a couple of specific questions (in my case, about creativity) and it really took off.
I swiped (and credited) the idea from another blog.

I just start blogging. After a month or so I let it go public. That gives plenty of stuff for people to read and comment on right from the start.

I did on both blogs, but in retrospect, pages move out of view so fast that I doubt they get read much.

I think my first post was a 'test' post to see how things would look actually, lol....and then I went straight into content. I didn't really know what I was going to do with the blog yet, so I couldn't really tell my readers about it...and they didn't really need to know anything about me, so content was my route.
hehe, I did a First Post and put some stuff in it that is now nonsense, but I've had the domain for a couple of years and despite it going up and down constantly I actually still get visitors :D
It's a strange old internet.

@Bob! - You should link us to that first post!
No problem Sara it's here --> First Post (http://bob-baillie.com/first-post) <-- The photoblog it mentions is gone, I'm using that blog for photo's as well now and the theme it mentions is away as well because I found the current one a few days after posting :) Basically it's a pointless post with no relevance now.
