Pr5 Premium Domain! (http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=481835)

This blog has very low numbers as far as alexa, backlinks, etc yet it's a PageRank 5. The owner told me that it's a PR 5 because it has a backlink from a PR 6 .edu site.

I think this guy is crazy...or is it just me? Having one .edu backlink doesn't give a site a PR of 5.

Seems fishy

That's not true. a .edu domain will not give you any more weight than a .com, .info. etc. The reason .edu domains are perceived to give more weight is because typically they have a higher page rank themselves (achieved through longevity and plenty of backlinks).

Sara's right. .edu links have about as much weight compared to other TLDs as two eight hundred pound gorillas.

That what I thought, no one called him on it, I started to wonder. He's basing the whole sale on the fact that the site has one PR6 .edu backlink. Well...whooptie doo. lol

I know I just wrote this in the PR thread but I'll repeat it...! Sometimes all it takes is one good backlink for the site to get a PR of 1 less than the good backlink. I've seen it happen to my own sites and to friends who needed a boost.
