View Full Version : Suggestion of Plugins
I am looking for a suggestion of plugins for my new blog:
What are your favorites?
What are essentials?
Any advice is appreciated.

Do you offer the Subscribe to Comments feature/plugin? - The Blog Experiment - Join the Conversation (http://www.theblogexperiment.com/blog-forum/showthread.php?t=373&highlight=plugin)
I would recommend that one!

I'd recommend
Akismet activated (comes as default)
Advanced Admin Menus from Yellow Swordfish
Google Site Maps
Search Everything
If you intend to have a few static pages then the SEO title tag is a good one to have.
For blogging also

Top Level Categories (http://fortes.com/projects/wordpress/top-level-cats/) (Removes the /category/ from category URLs), and Feedburner Feedsmith (Unless you can fix your feed URLs yourself).
Everything else is an accessory. Get the URLs wrong at the start though, and you'll probably regret it later. :(

Advanced Admin Menus from Yellow Swordfish
I wonder if you could leave the link to this one?
I use most of what SarahG mentioned and also the Add This Social Bookmarking Widget (drop down), the All in One SEO pack, and Comment Relish.

The Admin Menus is Yellow Swordfish (http://www.yellowswordfish.com/index.php?pagename=admin-advanced-drop-menus-wordpress-plugin)
All the plugins I recommend for different situations are listed at Stuff by Sarah Handy WordPress Plugins (http://www.stuffbysarah.net/blog/2007/08/15/handy-wordpress-plugins/) complete with links.
Michael, I wouldn't call Search Everything an accessory. By default WP only searches blog posts with the built in search. Whilst the search may possibly include static pages in the next major version of WP at present it doesn't, so if you have any page on your blog and offer the search box then you need this.

I'd particularly recommend the protectwebform plugin, which hardly anyone seems to know about but is quite possibly the most usefull plugin ever. I also think the wp-cache plugin is essential if you plan on dealing with high levels of traffic.
I use SpamKarma (http://unknowngenius.com/blog/wordpress/spam-karma/) and it works great.
