Holy Moly my site has been down for the entire day and I'm so depressed by it! I can't blog!!! And it happened just when I have the ideas! Damn! I contacted my webhosted about this and they are still fixing the problem due to the server being attacked. It's like a suffocation, I might as well just die. :(

What would you do when your site is down?

Cry and feel like it's useless going online. Too emo? :p

Mine was down for a week during a hosting change which had some issues. Nothing much I could do but work to get it back online.

You did what you could do Cedric. Unfortunately this can happen but just make sure you contact your host (as you did) and just wait. In the meantime, jot down your ideas in notepad!

Well, when my site/server goes down I do not have much time to think about the site because I am usually running around frantically trying to fix it. I have my server in the basement of my house, so, downtime is usually my own damn fault.

Don't suppose there's much you can do besides contacting your host and waiting. Luckily, since moving hosts, I haven't had any downtime yet :)

Same here. Who did you move to? I went to EngineHosting.

All my blogs are hosted with godaddy but I keep a back up of them on my dedicated box, so if my host went down Id simply switch DNS and be up again. But if for some strange reason they both crashed, Id write my Ideas on paper and work to get my servers back up.

your ideas could still be written on NOTEPAD or any other text editor you have.

heck, go to your mail software / site and write a post to yourself. :) after the site is up, just copy and paste and voila! it's done!

how fast does your DNS get updated? :) for me, if there's any down time i'm not concerned about my blog (i lost a few RM and a bunch of visitors the other day, hurting my daily average) but i'm more concerned of my client and my company site.

Emm.... spec out other hosts. ;)

A few little slippances is to be expected, but a full day? Or more? Yikes! If a webhost advertised 99% uptime, then I expect 99% uptime. Downtime just isn't good enough. As such, I'm more than happy to pay MediaTemple over double what many other hosts would ask for shared plans because MT have been fantastic for me so far. :)

If a webhost says 99% uptime and are only down for a day or two (and no more) they will still be true to their promise though

Over the course of a month it wouldn't be, and your billing/bandwidth limits etc. are all monthly. :)

@Michael - ahh, I didn't know they were monthly!

@Vertexity - I have only heard great things about ASO, what was your experience with them?

They were ok, I just had downtime every now and then. My sites were going offline at 3 times a month, sometimes for hours at a time. The sites I hosted with them were not even that big and were only using a fraction of the specs I had.

Support response was good, sites loaded quick but downtime was just too much.
