I have asked for reviews at webmaster communities. It's a good way to advertise your site and also get feedback on what people like.
What are some things you have done?

I just placed link in my sig on forums. I'm afraid that's all I've done so far.
Some people immediately linked to me, but that's pretty much it.

Well, I just cooked up a simple little contest give-away over at Every, Every Minute (http://everyeveryminute.wordpress.com):
Want to Win a Few of My Favorite Things? (http://everyeveryminute.wordpress.com/2007/09/11/want-to-win-a-few-of-my-favorite-things/)
We'll see how that goes.

I use things such as shoutwire: The Amazing Linux Sign Shoutwire.com (http://www.shoutwire.com/comments/103223/The_Amazing_Linux_Sign) (yes shameless I know but its a good way to see how it works)
Digg, but that rarely gets much traffic since you seem to need such a huge friend network to get anywhere on that damn website.
I also have done some static type advertising, for an example check this out: My New Offline Ad Campaign - Tetsujin's Blog (http://tetsujin.metamudcreations.com/index.php?/archives/47-My-New-Offline-Ad-Campaign.html)

I just get involved in the community and make sure that my footprint online leads back to me. Forums, blog comments, interviews on other sites, writing books, articles (online and off) are all ways I've tried to promote myself - and by direct connection, my blog.

I join directories and listings, and post on forums here and there. That's really all I can ever think of.

signature links. :) the visitors on that forum are now trained to give my URL the moment any situation arise. ;)
*plans to takeover the world!!!*
I've actually done a lot to drum up traffic. I got some buzz with my pink toilet marketing (http://www.itswritenow.com/138/pink-toilet-marketing/). I got quite a bit of traffic from the 30 day challenge forum. I've got a lot from Stumble Upon.
Right now I'm giving a way an ipod nano, which is getting me a lot of backlinks. And when I have time I go to blogs and drum up readers one at a time.
I actually get a lot of traffic if I comment on a big blog, like problogger, or Dosh Dosh.
I've signed up for some blog directories. I'm on the 45 n 5 list. I've also done some viral linking and I'm on a do follow blogroll.
After I make some aesthetic improvements on my site and create some more cornerstone content. I plan on doing some paid ads. Also I need to work on my SEO.
Search engine traffic is great for things like AdSense clicks. And for getting new readers.
Also I try to stay current with what's happening. If I win a blog contest I'll anticipate readers from that site coming over so I'll create a welcome post for those readers or try to highlight some content they may appreciate.
If some one does a review or I get a mention I try to incorporate that into a post so new visitors will feel welcome.
At this point I'm just trying everything, and eventually I should have some proven tactics to share. Emma

I have the standard comments on other blogs, along with a link to my main website and I made "Blidgets" at Widgetbox. I place them on my own blogs to show the entries between blogs.
My next task is to submit to as many blog directories as possible, and then write a few articles using my blog entries as resources. I also have feeds on a couple of Squidoo pages.

I've done very little, joined a couple of forums added my url to signatures etc, but not much really.
I still feel like I'm finding my feet blogging wise at the moment, so I'm not really looking to push myself too much just yet.

There is nothing wiser than taking your time instead of pushing yourself to move faster than is natural. The surest way to burn out is to try and emulate everything that other bloggers and site owners say one must do to get top traffic. Just write useful entries, develop a feel for the niche you would like to attract, and enjoy.

I haven't done much more than adding a link in my signature on some forums and other blogs I've visited. I'm trying to be very picky about where I add it, as well. Since I'm trying to target a certain area, I'm trying to just leave the signature at those particular sites or forums.

I do the little things like putting the link in my signature at various places, but my biggest pull is from blog hopping. Not only do I find new places to read, but I tend to pull people over to checking me out. When I go on my little hopping adventures, I try to leave useful comments on the places I enjoyed because they're more likely to follow me back to my place....but I've found that there are some people who check their stats constantly and even if I don't leave a comment, they follow me back anyway, lol.
Link in some forums I post in (siggy), some directory entries... I need to work more on the traffic since now I have a paypal account and can use some money :D
