I have been using Kontera (http://www.kontera.com) now for about a week and have been Amazingly happy with them. Does anyone else use Kontera?

The only issue I had was a complaint about the links popping up in my comments which I fixed right away.

Just my opinion, but I think kontera, and related ad techniques are the most annoying and worst type of advertising from a reader's standpoint. As soon as I'm scrolling through a page and my pointer hits one of those links and an annoying bubble pops up, I'm headed right for the back button.

They do a decent job from a monetizing standpoint, but it is a sure way to annoy readers.

I think more techie readers are going to hate the ads but others will think it's the coolest thing since the banana seat bicycle. I don 't care for the pop ups either, but you said you fixed them. How did you do that?

Well they still pop up in the posts. But it is a nice little bubble and it is mostly non intrusive I think. With the comments situation I had someone say they were displeased because the links were in the comments and it seemed like the people commenting were endorsing the advertisers. So kontera has it set up where you can put a span tag around anywhere you do not want their ads. So it comes out that I dropped it into my template file and now the comments no longer have ads in them.

Although I don't like text link ads because, IMO, they are often irrelevant to what I am reading and disturb my train of thought (my mind moves like a train... one way at a time!) --- I do like the way they are on tetsujin's site. A different color and a double underline simply tells me to not hover over them, at least until after I have finished reading.

They annoy me and I try to only advertise relevant products on my blog, so I dont use them. Though I am doing an experiment with splogs and I put them on the splogs and they work pretty well.

I'm in the camp that gets really annoyed by this type of advertising, and like Jeremy I will leave a site as soon as I see them. I think that if you really want your content to be read, you won't have an advertisment that actually covers some of it when a user mouses over certain words. I've also found that when you do mouseover a word, the ad is often hugely irrelevant to the content and relies on the word being used in a completely different context. But its horses for courses, just like most things on the web.

I use Kontera, but the CPC I'm averaging is terribly low. As a website visitor, I actually find them a little annoying. I recently installed a wordpress plugin that means that kontera ads are only shown on posts once they are 30 days old. I did this so that, in theory, I wouldn't pi$$ off regular visitors.

I try Kontera for 3 months, not bad, still can make money and managed to get my first payment after that. So I can tell you that they are reliable.

However, I found that it just annoys your reader, as least it annoys me. I dropped it after receiving my first payment as I want to build readership for my blog.

I was wondering about these ads. I don't know if they would be a distraction or not. Many of them don't seem to be relevant ads when I scroll over them. That's not good:tongue: . With such a new blog, I do not want to risk alienating any of my readers, but at the same time want to start thinking about monetizing it.

I totally agree.

I have found Kontera annoying because it changes the way a site behaves. It slows loading and make scrolling a chore. I think it's better to just have an ad or two between paragraphs.

What if you could decide which words you wanted to turn into ads? And you got to decide if you wanted a popover or just a text link? It seems like you could get the advantages of intext click through rates without the spaminess... (is spaminess a word?)

I installed it on my blog for a day, got so annoyed by them myself that I removed them before anyone complained.

If you are interested in intext ads you should give our new tool a try. It lets you decide which words you want to make into ads by just highlighting them with your mouse. Its brand new and we are looking for a few testers. You can sign up at Triggit (http://www.triggit.com/amazon).

The access code is: itbegins

I look forward to hearing what you think

kontera is the worst money making program i have ever used. firstly, it paid me really little like it was distributing penny to blogger and secondly its ads are so disturbing. but i havent removed them still as io have inserted them on template and i dunno how to remove it? but i hate kontera. you can read the post about negative side of kontera (http://thirdworldchaos.blogspot.com/2007/10/negative-side-of-kontera_03.html) following the link.
