I've seen mention of tumble blogs... what exactly are they and who should do them?

Tumble blogs are type of short form or microblogging. They generally have a utility for easily posting short snips: text, links, images, videos, quotes, conversations, and code snippets, for example.

I'm not sure who made the first tumble blog (some might argue that Dave Winer's Scripting.com is a tumble blog), but http://project.ioni.st/ was the first one I saw (they say they were inspired by http://www.anarchaia.org/ ).

Tumble blogs gained a lot of steam with the release of Tumblr (http://www.tumblr.com/) this past winter, which is sort of like Blogger for tumble blogs (a hosted tumbling app). It's pretty nice, but I always prefer to keep things in house.

Some downloadable tumble blogging software:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/tumble (PHP)
http://nothingconcept.com/bazooka/ (PHP)
http://gelatocms.com/ (PHP)
http://ozimodo.rubyforge.org/configure.html (Rails)

Most tumble blogs don't support comments, but I kind of want mine to. Perhaps daily Dave Winer style commenting would work well for this type of blogging.

I'm not sure I get tumble blogs. It looks like it is used for sharing links you like. A kind of a blog with only Link category :D

I agree. I mean.. it might be good to have a combination of both but if it only shares links, would you have an audience?

Why not use asides for stuff like that?
