Hello everyone. I've just stumbled across this forum today after looking for blogging related communities for a while. I've been blogging for about a year, and I think I've missed some opportunities because I keep sharing my time between a couple of different projects. I run the Oak Innovations Blog (Oak Innovations Blog (http://www.oakinnovations.co.uk/blog/)) where I write about blogging, web design, apple and technology and I run the Web 2.0 Blog (The Web 2.0 Blog (http://web2.0-blog.com/)) where I write about Web 2.0 type stuff.

Unfortunately, everytime one site seems to be picking up, the other one drops off. At the moment I'm debating whether or not to sell off the Web 2.0 blog as I can't give it the attention is deserves.

Anywho, I hope to learn from this forum, as well as contribute as much as possible. I'm off to read up on your current content ... ;)

Welcome to the madhouse. Don't feed the zombified Simpsons avatars, give anybody with a Bender avatar lots of beer and good cigars, and stay out of the mad scientist's lab (see my avatar for details) if you want to live.

Oh, and remember the golden rule. Don't drink any of Sara's (ses5909) finest Belgian lager without her permission. People who violate that rule end up in the lab. On second thought, go ahead and drink it. We need more zombified Simpsons avatars eating thier owners' brains around here anyway. :p

(Ok, enough of the pointless banter and silliness - welcome to The Blog Experiment, enjoy your stay here and get to know everybody. And no, I'm not this silly and immature in real life or elsewhere online - this place just happens to be where I unwind; I'm really a very serious person in real life and elsewhere online.)

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone, it's appreciated. I probably should have mention that one day, probably like most of you, I want to become a full time blogger. At the moment this seems quite a way off. I'm currently working for a large multi national company as a Business Analyst, specialising in Web Apps and usability. I worked out that my online income would have to increase by something like 300% to match my current salary, which just seems completely un-doable at the moment!

Is that before or after taxes?

Before taxes. I've been assuming that I'd get taxed the same on web income that I do on non web income. It's a bit daunting when you actually sit down and do the maths!

Check with an accountant then.

Here in the States we get taxed double for Social Security, Medicare/Medicaid, FICA and (in Illinois at least) state unemployment insurance (since employers have to match what the employee puts in, and when you become the boss, you have to match what you're already putting in).
