Do you keep backups of your photos? I just don't trust an online application to keep all of mine. I have an account but don't even have a picture yet. I've wondered what all of the fuss was.

I don't use Flickr as my backup as I only upload at 1280*1024 via the Flickr Uploadr anyhow. I keep a copy of all my original photos on my computer and backup drive.

As for all the fuss of Flickr, it's just a really easy way to manage your photos, show friends/family/strangers them and get exposure on them. I have my own gallery script that a couple of photographer clients have used but I tend to stick with Flickr as the exposure and community is good.

all my shots are snapped at 8.2MP.

Some outings, i get 2GB++ worth of shots.

my current archive has around 35GB worth of photos and i keep 1 on my primary machine and another on my file storage machine. :) both have 250GB hard disk to cater for my snappy fingers.

I sort of use Flickr. I don't really like it, so I've got my pics, there, set to private. I have local copies of everything, some saved to a travel drive, some in Gmail, and some published on my blog. Some are only on my hard disk, though. Those are the ones I worry about.

I used flickr for a while, decided not to use it any further since i have too many pictures and uploading is a hassle.

now my pictures are
original - on 2 HDD (As mentioned earlier)
gallery - on my site, and a backup copy on my drive some where. and usually burned to CD / DVD.

Yes, definitely have a flickr account but most of my pics are stored on a dvd or hdd

I have never used flickr, I do not have a camera, so I do not take very many pics. Though if I did have a camera, I would most likely not use them not because I have anything against it, I would just host on my server.

I only use flickr for online sharing, not for backup purposes. I burn my hard drive pics to CDs, though I am about to invest in a flash drive for backup purposes.

I use Flickr and no, I don't keep a backup. I figure they do. Do you think it's necessary?

I definitely would. I learned the hard way not to keep all my photos in one place. I lost about a years worth of photos. Still hoping that someday I will get them back!

The hard drive just quit spinning Malique. It crushed me and I felt so stupid. I always tend to learn things the hard way.

happened to me too. happened to my sister in law as well.

heck i've lost some of my development documents too but that was ages ago.

nowadays with the technology of bigger drives and networking, i just backup. :) so if anything goes wrong, let's just hope i'm not THAT unlucky to have 3 drives die on me at once.
