Jeremy brought up text link ads (http://www.theblogexperiment.com/blog-forum/showpost.php?p=400&postcount=2), but where do you go to find people who would want to put their link on your site? Or do you wait for them to come to you?
Then how do you factor in Google's stance on paid links (http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/how-to-report-paid-links/)?

99% of advertisers have come to me. I usually just get an email from someone asking how much it costs to place a link on my site, and from there we negotiate wording and pricing. I know some people have had success in adding a brief "Advertising" page on their site that basically outlines what type of advertising is available, the benefits and cost of said ads.
Regarding google's stance, I'm still on the fence. Hard to say how it will play out, but it is partially why I don't promote and advertise that type of advertising. If someone comes to me and asks, I'll consider the offer, but I don't want to blatantly offer it and just accept everyone. I have turned down some sites that were simply not in line with my content and wouldn't be relavant to my readers.
