LMAO!

There are advantages and disadvantages to both. I LOVED Mac OS 9. It was remarkably unstable (we're talking multiple daily forced re-starts), but it was so user-friendly that I cried when my iMac died, and I had to replace it with an XP box. Then, I damned near cried again when I found out how hard things are to find under Windows, and again, when I realized that I couldn't just throw applications in the trash, and be done with it. (That last bit resulted in 8 hours of phone calls to India, and Windows Explorer is STILL wonky.)

Then I got to mess with a friend's OS X for a few weeks. I was more stable than OS 9 (albeit less so than XP), but didn't retain the older system's ease of use.

So, for user-friendliness, I'd still use OS 9. For security ('though honestly, I haven't had any problems in that regard with Windows), I'd prefer any Mac system, 'til someone teaches me Linux. And for stability, I'd choose XP.

Someone needs to buy me LOTS of computers...

I've used a PC all my life and I work with PC's and Windows servers everyday at my 9-5. I like PC's better, but in the same regard, I've not used a Mac much, so it's not a fair comparison. We just purchased a Mac Mini here at work to play around with so I'll have to see how I like it.

I am in love with my Macbook. It can do no wrong. It shits me that the programs are harder to find and install though.

I guess I have been a PC user all my life so I am just switching over. I use a PC at work. PCs are great because they are so general...

Megan s2 Mac.

I've never owned Mac too.

Don't you get confused when you switch from PC to Mac?

I have always used a PC too. Never thought about switching over as I don't see the need to.

I use PCs as well (Vista at the minute. :) ), because I've never felt the need to swap to a Mac.

At least, until I saw the Leopard preview videos (http://www.apple.com/macosx/leopard/). After watching a few of those, it would be hard not to want a Mac! But they aren't so impressive that I would spend the money on a Mac when I'm perfectly happy with my PC.

And there are a lot more little programs for PC than for Mac. If I wanted to swap, there would be at least a few programs that I'd have to give up... :(

I've run both, and I learn toward PCs. I spent 3 years struggling with OS9 and it made me want to rip my hair out. I was doing a lot of heavy design and graphics work so I thought it would have been a better choice. I was mistaken.

When it comes to notebooks, there is something extra sexy about apple notebooks. But as far as desktops go, all an apple computer is nowadays is PC hardware, a different OS and a fancy looking case that costs far more than it should. So for my money, I build a desktop for home, but would consider a macbook.

I never got the whole stability argument though, as when I was using my G3 and OS9, it was going down more than a two dollar whore. Sure, windows wasn't much better, but at least if something locked up I could bring up the task manager and kill the process. But as far as XP is concerned, I can let my desktop run for months without a reboot, even when using it daily, photoshopping, web design stuff, etc.

Michael, have you tried Mac emulation? This is NOT a recommendation, but things like FlyAKite (http://www.flyakiteosx.com/) and some of the stuff from osx-e (http://www.osx-e.com/) look fairly easy to install. (Oh, and some it's massively wonky, too... but not all of it.)

I used PC all my life, played with a MAC for a little while and decided that PC is the one i want, maybe just because i'm just used to it.

I have a linux(ubuntu) desktop, a windows desktop and a laptop and an old iMac. I rarely use the linux or the iMac (mainly as I have no more desk space and they are in the other room).

Once I buy a desk/table big enough for all of this it will all get hooked up. I will make one the development comp, one the media comp(mp3s, movies and so on) and then I will use the iMac for browsing and email. :)

I can't wait. ;)

Thanks for the links, but I don't trust my computer to try something like that at the minute. It would seem that I've broken something, but I can't for the life of me figure out what. I'm leaning towards reformatting soon... xD

I've used a PC for 17 years and windows for about 16 years (we didn't have a mouse at first so Windows wasn't really my top priority over Tetris!) and am far too used to that. I've worked on Macs but if I got one it would only be because it's cool. My daily work wouldn't need or use the power or options that a Mac can offer.

Plus I really couldn't get used to the Mac mouse!

I think my next computer will be a Macbook. I'm used to PCs but Vista makes me too angry.

I like the look of Ubuntu as a potentially usable (finally) Linux desktop... but then I think, what's the point?

PC, 110% here. I was considering getting a Mac just so I could use Safari, but Steve Jobs (my HERO!) saved me the $3,000 price tag when he announced that Apple was porting Safari to Windows.

And now with KDE 4.0 (Konqueror Desktop Engine) coming to Windows, there's no need to use another operating system for building Web sites (as long as the rendering engines remain the same cross-platform, that is - hopefully the KDE team and Apple won't screw that up).

PC, for no reason other than they are what I know.

Oh, and I'm a .NET developer...

I was an avid pc supporter when the only mac I used were the colorful ones, but in highschool I had to use the macbook pro for photoshop and indesign and I fell in love, Sadly my current computer is a toshiba laptop because power vs price but my next laptop will be a macbook.

I'm with PC. Would like to check out Mac, but difficult as I am, I am always hard at adopting things around computers that I am used to. That's why I never switched from Windows to Ubuntu, for example.

I've been a Mac guy since I was a kid and will probably stick that way for the most part. We started out with an Apple IIc and moved up from there. When I wanted to get into computer graphics, Mac was the way to go. My college professors were almost requiring you to buy a Mac (if you bought a computer). All the labs we worked in were Mac towers, all the software was on Macs (besides the 3d / CAD programs of course), etc.

Besides being the platform I've used since childhood, I find the OS to be easier for me to control and customize for my needs. I currently work on a dual G4 867mHz tower at home with a 20" Cinema Display (quite old compared to what's come out lately) as well as my 1gHz Aluminum Powerbook (which gets the brunt of my work-load).

Personally I don't get into the debates on which is "better", or how they are just "pretty" and not functional, etc ... I use them because I like how they perform. And as with most things I do, I stick with what works. If I were to have numerous problems with them, maybe I'd consider switching ... but I wouldn't switch just for the sake of saving $200 because of the OS. I'll keep with OSX until something convinces me to switch. ;)

And that's the important thing to remember. It's about what works best for you, your budget and your needs that matters. Not the brand on the box.

For me, I have to have total control, but I also have a (virtually) non-existant budget and need to be able to the industry standard applications that I already have, which is why I use a PC with Windows XP (the only commercial aps other than the OS I use are Edit+, Microsoft Office and Adobe Photoshop - everything else is literally free as in beer or open source). If I had the choice though, I'd use Linux instead for my desktop, even though it's not ready for prime time on the personal computer (though that day is approaching quickly).

Don't you get confused when you switch from PC to Mac? [/color]

it's part and parcel of switching.

i use PC, i use Mac.

IMO PC vs Mac isn't exactly a proper comparison, how about Windows vs Linux vs Mac OS? :)

heck i use all 3. Besides Windows XP, i run Mac OS X and Linux SUSe 5.10 and i use a bunch of other Linuxes too.

And the way i use Mac is quite similiar to the way i use Linux (yeah i love Terminals).

IMO the Mac vs PC ads at Apple are overrated and quite often inaccurate. PC can do wonders but Mac itself has it's merits. I love my macbook very much, I use it when i'm downstairs (yes, i have 7 runnung computers in the house, not counting the other spare parts available to probably another unit or 2).

the choice of PC or Mac (or whatever OSes) is not a matter of which one is better, it's a matter of which one suits you better. :)

I've used PCs most of my life until I got my most recent job in July. I have an imac here at work and let me tell you, I LOVE IT. I am rarely on my PC at home anymore because it just frustrates me. To me, macs are just easier. (and of course when i say "mac" i mean the operating systems as well).
So I'm sorta a newly converted to mac person. My husband has a macbook and I never wanted anything to do with it. Now we are researching getting one of the new imacs for home.

And as for the mac mouse, you can use 2-button PC mouses on macs too. I got rid of that mouse first thing.
I've got a desktop manager that lets me have as many desktops as I want and it's so awesome - so much easier to organize what I'm doing.

Yep, I'm a PC girl that is now in love with a mac.

macs are cool. i use my macbook so much, my fingers get confused when i'm on a non-mac notebook.

1. copy / paste shortcuts
2. i tend to scroll with 2 fingers, which is a mac feature.

I've never owned one either, but I've used a few and they seem pretty nice. I prefer PC, probably because it's what I'm used to. I also have a second (lab) machine that I have ubuntu on.

my macbook's purpose is for presentation.

secondary purpose is my rig i place downstairs, where i can browse / compose while on the sofa. :D

once you grow with the macbook, you just don't feel like using anything else. :D i've used many other laptops, they don't give the feeling the mac does.

for some people yes. :) it's a great system actually. while it does have virus, getting one is rare. so are spywares.

for me? I'm still a PC guy with mac and linux under my arsenal. at least i know what my websites look like under mac and linux.

i love mac for it's simplicity. i have most of my PC / Windows replacements already. ok well, i haven't an FTP client so i'm using Terminal for FTPing purpose. :D
