View Full Version : Do you ever just hit it lucky?

What has happened for your blog to boost your traffic, almost as though by pure luck?
I logged on today to find that my RSS count had gone up by 50 over night. There was no particular reason for this. After looking at the stats, I can guess at what it might have been, but it definitely wasn't a big event that did it, and I hadn't done anything special over the weekend...
Not complaining though.

That's pretty cool! A couple things... I released a wordpress plugin and another thing that increased readers was actually participating here at TBE!

One day out of nowhere, Instapundit picked up one of my posts. That was fantastic. But I never read the site or even visited it in the past, so it was just pure luck.

I had one blog post in particular get stumbled over 25,000 times within the first week. That's as lucky as I've gotten so far :).

I've written about a large UK host and whenever their servers go down I get a major influx of visitors. I've now put affiliate links to hosting at the top of it ;)
Couple of stumbles one weekend put my stats through the roof recently.

Here's the post: Norton Internet Security 2007 Review (http://www.epursuit.net/blog/norton-internet-security-im-done-with-you/)
You can tell that I was blogging angry xD
The traffic didn't do much. Very few back links... did get some comments though.

I havent had too much luck blogging other than being able to convince one of my favorite blogs,rashy.org, to be sponsored but Id like to think that was because of my great rhetorical skills;)

I got stumbled a while ago, which brought in quite a lot of visitors and still does, although I could never find who or where I'd been stumbled. I'm not very good at the social-bookmark thing myself.
Yesterday I had about 100 extra visitors for an entry I wrote a couple of weeks ago, but all the visitors had typed the address in directly - so I couldn't tell what the source was. Perhaps a forum where someone had written the link but not as a clickable link so? Annoying, I prefer to see what people are saying about me!

I just found out Im really really lucky because I rank as #1 for a very awesome keyword and I just happen to have an affiliate link on that page and realized that its doing really well:D

stumbleupon sends a lot of traffic my way along with news.myspace and lindsayashford.net
I also rank well for many keywords.

I guess I got lucky today. I posted about that trojan I got this morning. I'm ranked #2 in Google for it (out of 4 sites, only 2 of which are in English), and my traffic has been triple the norm because of it. I'd rather not have gotten the trojan, though.

I've 'gotten lucky' on several occasions but for the strangest things. Usually quick, one paragraph shorties where at least half of them were put up for fun of it. Sometimes even without any included links. Please don't ask me what they were as I'd have to dig back into my stats to find them. Strictly luck of the draw thing for me.

Ah, it sounds worthwhile now. Want a few more to pump up your traffic even further? :naughty:

Ahhh... such a sweet thought, Michael, but I think I'll pass. I've written enough posts that basically say "Hey! Where the hell did that come from?" to last me the rest of my blog life. :D

I hit the front page of digg which sent 50000+ visitors crashing into the server, literally. I still get 10+ hits a day from that story on digg, which I don't really understand (it was months and months ago). Then, I seem to get random peaks of stumbleupon surges. i had one last week and one the week before where my traffic went up ten fold for a day, then back to normal. It was for the same story and I'd been getting steady traffic from stumbleupon for that story over the past few weeks, so it's not as if it's new or anything. I have no idea why it just surged for two random days though, very odd.
