Google Reader, 'though I've tried NewsGator, Alesti, PageFlakes, NetVibes, GoBits, Rojo, and a couple of Firefox extensions; and one awesome, simple, desktop reader back before my Mac died.

Is there a reason you like google reader better than others?

Is there a reason you like google reader better than others?

One huge reason is that it's easier to add feeds to Google Reader than to most online readers. Firefox allows you to add feeds to three different online readers just by clicking the little RSS icon in the address bar: Google Reader, Bloglines, and My Yahoo! When I was using Bloglines, the service wasn't especially reliable, and with Yahoo!, it seems that some feeds just aren't compatible.

I don't care for the feed readers that are set up with boxes, at all. Google Reader's simplicity goes a long, long way toward making it my reader of choice. The new NewsGator reader comes close, if you didn't have to download an .exe to install a toolbar, just to make adding feeds convenient. (And if some options weren't only available via right click, which of course brings up Firefox's menu, which covers the menu in NewsGator.) But with a lot of readers, there an element of "OK. What the hell do I do to make this thing function?"

I use Google Reader.

I love the keyboard shortcuts, and the design. I can fly through my feeds in no time.

I used to be on Newsgator. The system itself was a lot slower, as was their server. I got fed up in the end...

I swapped about 2 weeks before they redid everything though. The new interface looked very nice. :)

I'm still with Bloglines. I am actually satisfied with it. Never had any problems.

I might try Google Reader, but since I am tracking 70+ feeds, it will be pita to import all of those.

I just use Live Bookmarks within firefox. I won't miss much feed wise as I generally take my laptop with me if I am going anywhere for longer than a day so my firefox feed folder is always with me.

Not bothered with any others recently, live bookmarks works just fine for me.

it's quite easy, actually. just export from bloglines as an opml file. tiy can then import that opml file into reader.

I used bloglines for the longest time but I tried reader and never switched back. Not because Google Reader is any better but because I couldn't be bothered. Google Reader bugs the hell out of me by auto-scrolling every time I click on an article. I'm a random clicker and every time I click, it suddenly shifts the page so I lose wherever I was reading. How is that helpful? I checked out the new bloglines beta but it just looks like Google Reader now. So... for now, I guess I'll stick with Reader until something better comes along.

The auto-scrolling thing is a good point and yeah, it does get annoying.

I still get it. If the post starts halfway down the screen and I click in it, it jumps to the top. But I'm used to it now.

I've been using Bloglines beta at Bloglines v3 (beta) (http://beta.bloglines.com) for the last week with much success! I never did like Googles very much but I can understand the ease of adding to them. That is my biggest problem with the other readers I was using on my desktop, is that it was a pain to add too. Google and Blonglines are pretty much standard so I've never had any issues thus far adding my feeds easily. The new Bloglines betta has a 3-pane view and that is why I love it so much!
