Hey, does anyone have any private sponsors? Also if you do have them, how did you get them? Did they come to you or did you go to them?

I've had a couple people come to me through my blog but haven't taken anyone up on it yet. I imagine if you were looking for one, you could put an ad in someplace like the SitePoint Marketplace.

That's one of those things that I just dream about. Someday... ;)

I run my own ads (http://snook.ca/jonathan/advertising/). It's proven fairly successful as I'm usually at around 75% capacity. I haven't really gone after advertisers, though, and instead just wait for them to approach me.

I get a contact every week or so privately, but most never pan out. Usually they are really crappy sites looking to buy an absurdly cheap ad or it is a site I'm not comfortable promoting. Every so often I'll get someone that is legit and pay decent money. A lot better than TLA or the like since there is no middleman :D

I had my first for the blog a couple of days ago. They found me (through TLA), and we struck a deal privately.

Not on my blog; PR is too low. On my higher PR sites, they come to me, all the time. I limit most sites to 5 "sponsors", and charge about $200 per month each. Don't want to appear spammy nor push too much of my PR outside my own network of sites.

i currently have 4 sponsors. :) 2 are stated on the site now (one is my own company, yes my own business), 2 more are coming up within the month.
should be more coming in by end of the year.
a partnership is in plan at the moment too. so yeah. it's all going well. :)

That is great you can get that though, that is amazing money in it's own right, ok, well maybe that is from my, I-am-in-college prespective.

That is excellent, I am glad it is working for you so well. Hopefully the partnership goes well when it happens.

I'm still sitting at a PR0 but Alexa is gaining steadily so over the past couple of weeks I've had three private sponsorship contacts. All have been well over the $100 mark so I've taken them on - but am being careful to not dilute my content.

I've not had enough exposure yet for anyone to approach me, and I'm not sure how I'd respond if someone did. There have been several "a-list" bloggers who I have gone off slightly when they have obviously been paid to post about product abc or site xyz and have not been totally open about it. I'd be worried that it may put off some readers.

So you are doing pay per post type ideas? Or is it still banner ads?

I personally wouldn't do anything that I would have to Post about unless I was interested in it in the first place. I am thinking about things like banner ads also.

If you have reasonable content and traffic, you could approach potential sponsors.

tetsujin - I'm dabbling with pay per post but the actual sponsorships would be text links wrapped into blog posts as anchor links.

Wow, nice! Congratulations on that. Hopefully I'll have similar success with a sponsor or two, or three sometime in the near future.

So I started this thread a while ago, but I am now taking the plunge and actively pursuing private sponsors. Any advice on what would work the best to get them?

They need to know what's in for them. :)
For me, the year ended with 5 sponsors. 6 if you count my own company.
For the sponsors at my site, they get more publicity when I review their products or use their products for experiments and such.

I don’t have one. I wish I can do some private sponsoring. By the way, when you say private sponsoring do you refer to sites like payperpost.

I believe they are referring to a direct sponsor. Say you have a website about toys and a toy store contacts you directly. This would be a good way.

either directly or through authorized channels I'd say.
For example.
Arctic Cooling and ASUS deals with me directly.
Xigmatek, THQ and Albatron deal with me via distributors / channels.

Yes, that is in fact what I am talking about. Most of mine are directly from other blogs though.

This is great way to monetize your blog. I can’t understand what you are saying. This is the first time I’m reading about this. How can I get one?
