From the Philippines it's going to be VERY different. I would definitely come out for a visit first before making such a big move unless you have a job taking you there.

I love LA! I've never been to the Phillipines though, so can't give you a fair comparison I'm afraid.

I've never been to L.A.. And I don't have much desire to go. But I had a friend who lived there for a few years. She hated not having seasons, talked about being stalked by some strange guy, told me about how there were a lot of homeless people among L.A.'s mentally ill, and said that L.A. was very conservative (?). She also found a lot of opportunities for showing and selling her art, made contacts in the art and film industries, met some interesting people, and made good money (to offset the outrageously high rent). Later, she moved to Taos. Now she talks about how much she loves Taos and how she hated L.A.. I think a lot depends on what you're used to and what you're looking for.
