When you bought your domain, did you choose .com? If it wasn't available, did you choose .net?? Did you buy multiple extensions?

I briefly thought about snagging up 2dolphins.net, .org, etc. but just couldn't convince myself it was worth the extra $$$. I'm really happy that I was able to get a .com that's nice & simple - although you'd be amazed at how many people have to ask how to spell "dolphins" when I verbally give 'em my email address...

I'll always go with .com. I'm not a fan of other extensions. Not sure why.

I would consider .net but that's it.

i have one .net because its a personal site and i thought it was better sounding than .com . all my other ones are .com and i have a few where i'm using them for bigger websites so i decided to buy the .net and .org too. havent gotten .info's though

Some people don't just get why there is .com .net .org. .tv You cannot use a .org when it's a personal site, right? .org means the site is a organization.. argh.

Or I may be wrong. :p

well i think .org was 'meant' for organization sites, buti have a .org and i'm not an organization... lol it can be for anything really, you buy it, you do what you want with it haha. just like com was probably meant for business or commercials but yet we see tons of .coms for organizations, online forums/networks, and personal sites.

My blogs are all .com. I haven't bought the other TLDs but I often do for other sites of mine, especially business ones.

Our blog at work is on a subdomain, but we purchased two .com domain versions that redirect to it, just so we'd have the option to say it, and to own the name. The two versions are with and without a hyphen to avoid confusion.

i went for .com cos it's the most common. it's the part that almost everyone else has in their head.

anything other than .com you'll HAVE to tell them and make sure they remember. :)

I typically go for .com's too. I have several of those, although I also have a few .nets and a .co.uk

The .com was taken so I swiped the .net instead. In an e-commerce or business situation I would always go with a .com but for a blog It didn't matter too much.

i'd try to clinch a .com, im not a fan of net/org/info/biz.
if the name is taken, i'd modify it relevantly.

The reality is that it doesn't really matter. My blog's a .info, I know some of you read it. My targetedvisitors.info site made over $100,000 in sales its first year. My picvault.info site has a few hundred thousand images hosted.

None of my main sites are .coms, most of them are .org and ones .net, and ones even .info. As long as you can get a good SERP then it really doesnt matter what your .tld is. Though if I can afford it I try and buy at least the .org/.net/.com for my sites and redirect it to one of them depending if commercial, organization or network fits the site best.

D.G., I'm not saying that they're worthless, I'm just saying I won't touch them. It's a personal preference is all.

For my blog, I went for a .com.

Originally, when I first set up the blog I got grumpysite.com. A couple of weeks later, I hated the name so went for headrambles.com, and that has stayed.

Just for the laugh, I also registered rantabout.it

I wouldn't be bothered with any of the others, because people tend to get to my site via RSS, links on other blogs or through searching the content [my most popular search term is 'senior porn' for some reason!]. A blog isn't like a business, where branding is so important.

Yes I got a dot com because I figured that's what most people are used to.

My site is Tetsujin's Blog (http://tetsujin.metamudcreations.com) which is a subdomain of my forum MetaMudCreations (http://www.metamudcreations.com)

Chose it because well, it made sense at the time, and it's not too expensive.

I'm on a .com as well. I considered .net for a while, but in the end, it just had to be .com for me.

Things would be a lot nicer if there weren't so many domain squatters on .coms though! xD

I started on a UK domain I'd bought for showcasing my freelance work to other agencies (so they didn't have to see my business site), however I got tired of the name and moved to a .net. I quite like .nets as you can often get good names.

I chose a .com just because it seems like thats what most people remember the best. And I was excited when I realized the one I wanted was available. I really kind of want a new domain name now but of course it's very difficult to chose something fresh and original.

I'm currently using both .coms and .nets, but I think in the future I'm probably going to stick to .coms.

I always go for both .com and .co.uk and have them point to the same place. I publicise the .co.uk addresses when the client (or my blog) is primarily UK based, but also get the .com to stop squatters where I can.

I did want to buy an Irish domain ".ie" so I could have the address, "mcquarr.ie" but as I'm not a citizen or a business based in Ireland I'm not allowed to own that. Shame.

I wanted .com or .net but neither were available! I actually wanted it without the hyphen too. I had to go with .org unfortunately!

I'm a bit of a domain hoarder, so I have numerous of each. My main sites are either on .coms or .co.uks. One advantage of a .com is that if you ever want to resell it, it will be worth more. You'll also get more type-in traffic, in my experience.
