Most blog software comes with a wysiwyg text editor. Do you use yours? It is one of the first things I turn off.

Me too, I hate it, it does not allow for easy editing.

I turn it off too. I don't like them at all because it messes it up more than makes it nice. For those that don't know html/xhtml I can see it being helpful tho.

If you're talking about the WordPress WYSIWYG editor, that thing sucks, massively. The one in TypePad's useful, though. I switch back and forth between "Compose" and "Edit HTML" a lot, because I haven't figured out how to center in WYS... mode. Other than that, it's a HUGE time-saver.

I leave it on, but switch between the standard and code version regularly. I never do anything fancy with my writing to really need anything else. I just type a few paragraphs, add a link or two, and maybe make some words bold, so the wysiwyg doesn't have an opportunity to mess anything up.

I turn it off and tend to enter most of my markup code by hand (probably a control issue).

Yup, I'm a hand-coder too. I mostly use Notepad & Google Notebook. Sometimes I'll use DreamWeaver, but it's massively overkill...

DreamWeaver is such overkill but I do the same exact thing. Generally I'll open up dreamweaver if I'm having some sort of problem hand coding something myself (I get stuck with tables especially).

I tend to just use the editor. But I used hosted WP...

Mine is switched off, too. I hate that thing. I want to be in control over the code.

Wacky thing is, my wife does Intranet/Internet dev for the company she works for and the whole HTML coding thing is purely a hobby kinda thing for me - yet I'm many times more proficient at raw HTML than she is. She prefers WYSIWYG editing. But I'm working on her!

I don't like them in general so won't be using it when I install WP.

i use the wysiwyg, but fine tune it further by clicking the 'code' tab.

I use the WYSIWYG because I use a fair bit of formatting in my posts, so the WYSIWYG saves me a tonne of time. I still use the code editor for the extra formatting, but the WYSIWYG is my main tool.

The code editor infuriates me though. If it's supposed to be a code editor, why does Wordpress insist on playing with my code? :(

If I disable the WYSIWYG editor, will I get a plain code editor? (Where I write everything, including the <p> tags...)

Yep!

Now I'm tempted!

EDIT - I installed Windows Live Writer earlier, and I absolutely loved it! It has every option, it's effortless to use, it has a real code editor, and I love how you can type right onto your blog's design. Much, much better than having to constantly preview. :D

The only thing I didn't like was how it handled images. I don't want it ruining the quality of them... Will have to see how they look tomorrow. :(
