Titles are important!

I was just going through my RSS feeds and the way google reader has them set up, you only see the title and then you click the title to read the post. When I am short on time (read a million things to do so I shouldn't be reading blog posts) I tend to decide what I will read based on the title. Anyone else do that???

I show the whole post (be it full or excerpt) in Google Reader and skim the title and first paragraph usually, then make my mind up whether to continue reading.

For some, however, I do read the whole post regardless (when I have more time!) if I know their writing is good.

I typically scan through titles first although any that I'm subscribed to I tend to go and read new entries regardless.

I open the full posts, and flick through them all using the keys j, k and v.

If I see a post that looks interesting, I hit v (Firefox has been set to open all links in a background tab, so I don't lose focus from Google Reader), and then j onto the next post. I can get through a lot of posts very quickly that way.

Titles are indeed very important. :)
