View Full Version : Anyone seen signs of a Page Rank update yet?

Everyone has been saying it for weeks now, just curious if anyone has seen any hard evidence of an actual update? A poster on Digital Point said that the update was already complete (can't find the thread now, sorry) so I didn't know. I'm still setting at a big dough nut!

From what I've read, this is the longest it's ever gone without an official update. But no, I don't have any hard evidence (my PR changing) that it is completed.

Nope, I was anticipating a change a few weeks ago, but I haven't noticed anything. They better get on the ball so if I go up a rank I can increase my prices :D

lol. I think that's what everyone's thinking. I'd at least like to get some PR so I can try to sell some advertising. I can't do anything right now.

I can't do anything right now.If you have traffic, you should be able to sell advertising. Now obviously you won't be able to educate all advertisers on why Google PageRank is a useless measuring stick but I think if you focus on your monthly traffic and impression numbers you should be able to find some advertisers. Of course, when using services like TLA and ReviewMe etc, Google PageRank plays a big part in those (unfortunately) but direct advertising should still be an option.

Yeah, I really don't care one way or the other about Page Rank, but TLA won't accept you until it's a 3 or 4 and majority of advertisers look at it as a gauge for popularity (unfortunately) also.
How do you find private advertisers? Actually approach them and ask or just throw up an "advertise here" banner and wait? I'm not seeing huge numbers where I'm going to ask for $500 a month or whatever, but I think I'm seeing enough traffic where if someone wanted to advertise I could at least get back what it costs me to maintain the site and if traffic continues to grow, I can reevaluate my position later.

I take it the last time Page Ranking was calculated was around March [I don't know much about these things, I'm afraid].
Herself [The Missus] started a blog (http://www.grannylosttheplot.com/) at the beginning of March and it has a rank of 4. My daughter [K8 the GR8 (http://www.cackaloo.com/)] started one at the beginning of April and it has a page rank of 0, even though it gets a LOT more traffic.

Yeah, I don't think traffic really has an impact on PageRank which is why it's not a good indicator for advertising purposes (even though every advertiser seems to want a site to have a high page rank). Google really has not way of knowing your traffic stats (unless you have Analytics installed) so it's thought that PageRank is based upon the number sites linking to your site. But, there again, no one really knows how it works or I guess even when it will be updated, so we're at Google's mercy.

yeah everyone has been saying its changing. but is it really common for your PR to change up or down 'everytime' it gets updated? i just figure that all these people still "waiting" had their pr updated - to the same #.

hahaha, we wish the same stuff, i've been noticing that it's getting harder to pass the PR 6 mark so PR 8 would really really be a big deal (if your making money from TLA and such).
I remember the days when statcounter.com was a perfect PR 10 but those days a gone, i too am quite dissapointed that my main blog is just PR 4 :P
When was this? I've not seen much mention of this in the forums etc
Well, i don't know what forums your on BUT every single forum i'm at have been buzzing with this PR thing, especially DigitalPoint (http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=374454)

You can get thousands of backlinks by basically commenting on other blogs. From looking at my backlink stats in Yahoo Site Manager I've got almost 8,000 and Google Webmaster tools shows nearly 3,000. I don't think that's to bad for four months of work.
I can't speak for KingJacob though. He may have other good methods for getting backlinks.
Then I better start commenting more.:)

Well, that's not completely true. Most of the blogs use nofollow on links in comments, so, you won't be getting much backlinks.
Recently, some bloggers actually removed nofollow from links in comments, but still, as far as I saw, it is only minority of them.

Yes, but as I understand it from reading some of the top SEO blogs (keep in mind I'm not SEO expert) but supposedly, Google is the only engine that sees nofollow hence the reason I have 8,000 backlinks according to Yahoo and only 3000 according to Google. Nofollow is flawed system, thus the reason for everyone promoting dofollow lately. It was create to stop spam, but it doesn't (especially when only one search engine follows it). Fact is, spammers will spam regardless and they're definitely not going to take time of their day to check the source code on a blog to see if it is a dofollower.

I don't think the PR has updated everywhere. I switched domains in May and had a PR4 domain before, 301'd now to the new domain. Google has seen the new domain and happily changed its index.
About a month ago I noticed the grey PR bar changed to white but that's all so far. So either a: I've lost PR4 off a site that has simply changed domain, b: Google hasn't awarded PR to new domains during its update.

I agree. My site has been online for four months now and is still a PR 0. I may be wrong, but I have to believe that I'd go up at the very least to a 1.
Thanks my story anyway and I'm sticking to it. :) Makes me feel better at least to tell myself it's not been updated. lol

It helps to be in the blogroll and top commentor of blogs that update often.
Whats funny is the recent blogger to join PA has a bunch of pr3 domains with 3-10 backlinks, just check out ICparis.com,ICtoronto.com,Ictoronto.comxD

Yeah, I'm actually in the blog roll of quite a few very nice blogs with high PR (4 and above). Although, that doesn't say much since no one really knows how PR actually works. The longer it takes to update almost makes me think they're not even developing it anymore and it could be on the way out.
It's even funnier that my portfolio site (now offline) was almost never updated and I would guess had zero backlinks and before I took it offline it was a 2. Weird.

Sometimes one backlink is all it takes. I linked to one of these generated sites to trial on a brand new domain from a PR4 site and last update it got a PR3. There's certainly only my domain linking to it!

Also, using Google to determine the number of links you have is quite flawed. Unless you're using Google Webmaster Central, you're wasting your time as the link: command in Google is useless and only reports a fraction of your total links.
Also, just because a link shows up in Webmaster Central or Yahoo's site explorer, doesn't mean it passes any value. Conversely, just because it doesn't show, doesn't mean they can't see it.

Apparently the PR update has been delayed by Google. However I came across a post saying that the Asia and Australia area had started to see signs of updates so that could explain why a few members here have seen some updates

Thanks for clearing that up for me. Instead of doing some hard research myself I was going on what I read in forums. :)
Yeah, I always check my links in Google Webmaster Tools as I've noticed that link: is way off (or I think it has to be). I've got like 17 inlinks from link:.
