I prefer to use GoDaddy although lately I've been using ajaxwhois (http://www.ajaxwhois.com/) to search for them. I'm afraid I am a bit of an addict and buy one on average every 2 weeks.

www.misk.com (formerly RegisterFly) here. I've been using them since 2003 without a single problem

Just be careful when registering domain names with anyone. Read www.domainwarning.com for more information.

Alright...here is an additional question.. who makes their domain registrations private? I do ever since a few years ago I got a phone call from someone who looked up my Whois info.

I have never done so, but have seriously considered it.

I've only bought one domain, and, yeah, I made it private. That was years ago, and I bought it through RegisterFly. I didn't have any problems with them, other than the constant emails about specials they were running.

I'm not ready to buy a domain, right now, in part because domain mapping would involve upgrading TypePad, but I've messed about with Ajaxwhois, and it's pretty damned cool.

I got mine through Yahoo, and I did make it private.

So far, no problems!

yikes, registerfly is back???

anyhoo, is it possible to register a domain without any of your real details?
(of cos the billing details has to be legit)

this way u can save those few dollars for making it private.

is this legal my friends?

Hiro,

I don't think it is illegal in the sense you will get arrested for it, but I do think it breaks the TOS of most if not all registrars so if you do it and get caught... you're SOL

We purchase domains through namecheap. I own several domains.

I get mine from http://dynadot.com They offer most domains for 7.99 and 2.99 for the privacy. However, I'm told some companies offer cheap domain names like that and offer free privacy. Anyone know of any?

Overall, I am happy with DynaDot. Love their interface. I used to use godaddy but was tired of paying the domain prices and then the high prices for privacy!

I buy the majority of mine from NameCheap

I've used 123-reg.co.uk (pipex owned) for look-ups, and use my host for registering. My host is about as cheap as 123-reg, and i've never had a problem.

How can namecheap offer domain registration so cheaply anyway?

I currently register my domains at DomainSite.com (http://www.DomainSite.com). They are simple and they do not try to sell you millions of things while checking out.

If you are looking for cheap whois privacy, I hear 1&1 does free and I believe that namecheap.com has discounts all the time too. My solutions since I have so many domains was to get my own forwarding phone number and a p.o. box to put up on my whois.

Domain registers can offer low cost because they try to sell you other services instead to make up the costs.

GoDaddy here as well. I just started to hate their interface for handling domains. It is painfully slow and somewhat user unfriendly.

I use NameCheap and enable WhoIs guard on all of them. NameCheap gives you a free year of WhoIs Guard free.

How do you register a domain privately and why is it illegal? Never heard of this before.

I've used GoDaddy for quite a while ... I stick with what works. There could be better / cheaper out there, but unless it's a significant drop in price or convenience elsewhere, I'll keep going back.

GoDaddy here as well. On one hand, it's a force of habit. On the other, I'm a reseller anyways.

I'm like kevin in the sense that I've been happy with Go Daddy and even though they arent the cheapest, a few dollars isn't enough to make me jump ship. I'm an ideal customer. If the product is good, I don't mind paying for it as long as I can afford it.

newt....do you use your own reseller link when you purchase domains?

I've always used GoDaddy to purchase my domains, but had a terrible hosting experience with them on my very first website years ago and have used another company to do my hosting ever since.
