One of the things that the Pro's advise to stay away from is blogging when you're angry. Things are often said that you may regret later. A bit like real life, ay?

I really try to avoid blogging when sad or angry. I have an offline journal for that.

I'm like you Sam. I always feel motivated when I'm angry (but not frustrated, definitely not frustrated). Then the post turns into a rant or a cynical, dry satirical type of thing. If it's a rant I try to warn folks about it right at the beginning.

i try not to, but if its blog-worthy..why not?

Yup...I have a few of those posts myself, Malique :)

I really try to avoid blogging when sad or angry. I have an offline journal for that.

I tried that myself a couple times...never worked for me. It always turned into some story line and went off on it's own. Before I knew it I had a 15 page short story and it was 4 in the morning. :D

One of My blogs is personal so I often blog when I am angry, upset etc...

Hi Megan,

Sounds reasonable. Seems like it all boils down to blogger's choice when it comes to personal blogs. What about a "niche" type blog then? That may sound like an obvious question but would subject matter make a difference?

Hey all, Please excuse all the quotes in one message. I'm just getting a feel for things. :o

Quotes are just fine. I would say if you have a niche blog about chimney sweeps and you all of the sudden blogged about how your jerk of a neighbor ran over your cat and called him all sorts of names...it could affect your blog.

Granted on some of the extremely niche blogs, they could use some creative content like that ;)

Ain't it the truth? It also might jolt their readers back to consciousness occasionally.

I do sometimes because I just need a place to vent.

I wouldn't. It may seem like a good thing to do at the time and make me feel slightly better but I'm definitely going to regret it once I have calmed down. Sure I could delete it but the damage could already have been done by that point. Someone may have read it, people could have gotten offended.

I definitely do. My blog is no holds barred. I lay it on the line. My readers know that. I made a deal with myself when I started that I wouldn't hold things back, and if people ask me about my blog, I tell them that they are welcome to read it but that they might read things that they didn't want to know. My husband and a couple of my friends choose not to read it for that reason.

Having said that, I'm never cruel or antagonistic towards specific people, even when I'm incredibly angry. But I'm not in real life either. It just doesn't achieve anything.

It reminds me of this rule we had when we were growing up. It was ok to swear, but it was never ok to swear AT someone.

My topic doesn't lend itself to angry blogging very well, but there have been times where comments or something another blog wrote about that really had me steaming and I'd write about it. I never hit the publish button, but used the typing to vent and let some of the anger out, and by the time I was done or some time had passed, I was calm enough to realize it wasn't in my best interest to post it.

I've noticed I get frustrated when misinformation is spread like gospel. For whatever reason, it's not the idiot writing it that bothers me, it's that even after they are proven wrong (in comments or links pointing to accurate info or whatever) people still buy the BS! That drives me nuts and has at times (as recent as just last friday in fact) caused me to blog angry or at the very least aggravated. However, I usually site on the post for an hour or two to calm down a bit and make sure everything in it is accurate. I don't mind if I come across a bit harsh or critical as long as I am correct on the issue. It's never good to burn bridges so I try to avoid that, I do at times singe them a bit though.;)

I do write when I am angry, but I do not post them. I want to keep my forum happy and light hearted.

Hi Megan,

Sounds reasonable. Seems like it all boils down to blogger's choice when it comes to personal blogs. What about a "niche" type blog then? That may sound like an obvious question but would subject matter make a difference?

I refer to my 'angry' blogs in my IT related blog as 'passionate' :D

In fact..I am going to write one shortly...Passionate, of course.

It really depends on how you argue your 'angryness'. If you go on a stupid rant because you are angry on a niche type blog you will look like a tool.

But if you are angry, and argue your point reasonably with a sense of education and knowledge of a topic then I think it shouldn't matter.

I dont get angry much but when I am I try to direct my anger directly at the source and not just shoot of at the entire internet like in a blog.

Some of my posts are 'rants' against bad service I bump into, so I might be angry when writing them. I always calm down during writing since I have other things to think about (such as writing in a language I don't speak normally, English :D)

Maybe I should try blogging in a different language, because I just get angrier while I'm writing about whatever ticked me off in the first place.

I'm with dojo on this even though english is my language-because the act of typing for me just doesn't lend itself to anger. I'm too anal to write and publish, I recheck and edit many times. If I wrote something evil, on the second edit I'll probably take it out.
But I've done just as bad with snobby or smug posts. I can be a really obnoxious ho sometimes. I have a category for it called Blogging Indiscretions.
Yeah, I pissed off some people.

I blog when I'm angry. I don't get angry at people. I get angry at companies and code.

I blog when I feel like it and I often feel like it when I'm angry. I've never blogged anything that I later regretted... But then I'm not going to take advice from some so-called blogging "expert"....

good god yes i have ruined a few friendships that way....they have been re-built by now but i mean back then it was just a bad idea. i have said many things that shouldn't have been said and they can be screencaptured and kept forever as evidence. things are different when you write them because they can be permanent. spoken words can be forgotten or at least cannot be proven.

Hi all,

Glad you folks are still thinking about this. I've been under the weather dealing with service-related stuff so sorry I haven't been around.

I caught myself last night in the middle of writing a "rant", stopped, thought about it some more (had supper) and turned the whole thing around into something more constructive or at least more humorous. Goes to show it can always happen to you.

@ Shinji246, Glad you were able to rebuild those friendships. The written word may not be written in stone but often times it's just as permanent, ay? :)

I have been thinking about this. The experts may warn against it, but then there are many "rant" blogs that do very well. So how right are the 'experts'?

I try not to blog or post when I'm really angry. Sometimes I"ll take a few minutes cool-down and sometimes I'll sleep on an issue to see if I still feel the same way next day and if my thoughts are rational. After all, I am not certified... only certifiable. :D

It depends on the blog, if it is personal and about you, your life and feeling then you must blog the whole rainbow of feelings. If it is a tech or some guru blog then no, stay professional with it.
