View Full Version : Putting a face to the name?

I recently seen a photo of someone's blog I read and I was surprised to see what they looked like. This got me thinking.
Maybe it's just me, I never really thought about what the person would look like but then once I seen a photo, I realised that I actually did have a picture in mind as to what that person would look like. Do you do the same? I think I was just doing this subconsciously.
That being the case, the imagery attached to the name must be influenced by that persons personality. Kind of wierd.
Just a random thought that I decided to share :)

I'm glad that wasn't "psycho" :p
If I do, they must be broken as what I imagined the person to look like was waaay off!

I completely agree with you. You get an idea in your head much as you do when you read books and it's neat to see how the real deal is different. I made a post about putting your picture on your blog (http://www.theblogexperiment.com/blog/2007/08/06/bloggers-need-an-about-page/) and would recommend you do the same when you get yours up!

Thanks for the link, great article :)
I will be putting up an about section with a photo when mine is up. I am pondering whether or not to just use a free theme whilst working on mine or to wait until my own is done.

I finally took Sara's LOUD hint and put mine up. Now I just hope it doesn't scare people away!

I definitely do the same thing. Something similar happens with online games, too, if you see a picture of someone you've talked to over voice chat. Even voice can't really paint an accurate picture.

Hopefully there won't be much surprise on my blog when its up as I have a small excerpt from the about section planned for the index with a photo so first time visitors will most likely spot that first.

I will be doing the same thing very shortly. I actually have to go and get a professional photo taken to use on my about.com site, so once I get that done I'll use it on my other site as well.

I put a couple on my about (http://www.epursuit.net/blog/about/) page, but they aren't exactly professional. I may have to do like Jeremy and have a professional photo done.

Mine aren't professional either, maybe one day :)

I wonder though - do they really need to be?
One thing that I love about blogging in general is the human connection that you're able to form with the author. If a blogger uses traditional "professional" photography, might that hurt the personality behind the blog?
I think that I'd rather see a picture someone out having fun on their yacht or hanging out with their friends/family rather than all dressed up in a stuffy formal picture.

I guess it would depend on the blog topic. I would rather not have a professional one done, but it is their requirement. But then I thought about it, and since I write about a fairly serious topic and provide information as an expert in a particular field, it may be appropriate to keep the professional image on the blog as well.
But I'm with Paul, usually I'd like to see the "true" person in a photo when I'm reading about someone.

The one on ilovecode was taken with a webcam so I think that is about as unprofessional as it gets :D

What.... that lovely photo wasn't professional? I am shocked! :p
(J/k -- you look better waking up than I do dressed up! :) )

Mine was taken with my phone. That's enough for me. I have a face for blogging. ;)
Mine aren't professional either, maybe one day :) Go and get one of those 'Body Shots' ones that look like soft porn. Those are hilarious!

*Laughs about a particular Authors photo at SP*
I am the biggest poser in the world so I am always adding photos.
I like seeing photos on blogs because then I don't have to imagine what the person is like. It is like getting a complete picture instead of half.
