I have never read any of teh Harry Potter books nor have I seen the movies.

Also, I have not seen the LOTR movies either thouigh I did see part of one where there was a big all seeing eye on top of some obelisk.

Very symbolic.

i'm supposed to wait for the wife to finish, but I downloaded the first 300 pages so I could get a head start....

I saw OOTP on Thursday, and except for the fight at the Ministry, it was crap. Too much exposition and nothing real interesting happening.

Come on. Tolkien is a literary master. He invented a language....

Lots of killing in the latest HP book, I was sad who died. I do like the books so much better than the movies. I just saw the most recent movie and came away once again disappointed. The cinematograhy and the special effects blew me away, but that was about it.

I hate it when people bag stuff that I love, but holy hell I struggle with Harry Potter. I watched 5 minutes of the first movie and felt like smashing up the TV. I haven't even looked at the cover of one of the books.

I don't like stories with stupid names and things.

I guess I'm just not a fantasy girl. Don't like LOTR either, but I watched all of the movies because I'm patriotic.

I think that Harry Potter is to much it's 'all happy wizardy' for me.

Good on yah for being patriotic Hawk, NZ is a beautiful place. Dare I say nearly as good as Aus Land.

I think as the author realized that so many adults enjoyed the series, the later books definitely didn't have that "all happy wizardry" feel....especially the last one as country-writer mentions.

Somehow she was able to balance an attraction for both children and adults which is probably why it has been so successful.

I have only watched the movies, not read the books. I just can't get into them.

They are very popular, my mum even likes Harry :)

I'm there with you. I don't think I was able to watch even 5 whole minutes of HP.

I did watch the LOTR and read The Hobbit: Or There and Back Again, but I think I have never read last 30 pages of it.

It's good :) I really enjoyed it - more than what I enjoyed LOTR. I think maybe I am to fanatical :)

I just saw on the news today that bookstores even had on-hand grief counselors on the day the book was released. People really get into the books, it's unreal. I've never read one but seen all of the movies. They seem like decent stories, but I just don't have the time nor desire to read them personally. We'll see what sort of chaos ensues now that the "final" book has been released to the world ...

I'm right there with Hawk on that one. I love science fiction and I always hear "oh you should read the harry potter books" but I just can't stomach any sort of fantasy stuff, fairies and wizards and magic .. all crap to me.
Haven't seen the movies either, it just doesn't appeal to me.

Loved LOTR movies, but I don't think I could re-watch them. Too long.

My little brother-in-law has been glued to the book too, I think he finished yesterday at some point. He was in his room for like 24 hours straight, then came out with red eyes. I assumed that someone died in the book cuz he looked pretty grim.

I am sorry but that is just nuts! It's a book for pity's sake! I was able when I was a kid to read Nancy Drew without wanting to go out and solve a crime. I read the Boxcar Children and didn't cry because these kids lived inside a boxcar for their entire life. When the Grinch stole Christmas, I didn't round up a lynching party. I guess I am lucky. My mom was head librarian and she used to take us all to work with her. My sisters would read to me the entire day. I grew up loving books and understanding how words can change people. Maybe that is why I am a professional writer. I also kept journals since age 12 so blogging was a natural progression for me, although I still journal in long-hand and leave private thoughts to my hardbound journals.

Grief counselors to deal with dead characters? sheesh!

Grief counselors to deal with dead characters? sheesh!

I finished it monday night and was pretty torn up about one of the deaths.....took me almost 5 seconds to get over it. The agony!

All in all I thought it was brilliant. Definitely not a children's book anymore.

"NOT MY DAUGHTER, YOU BITCH!" <- best line in the book. period.

WHAT THE! It's Harry Potter, you should read it even if you don't like it, it's a national treasure, much like Pride and Prejudice. As for getting upset over the deaths then, really it's a big compliment to the author for writing it so well you believe in the characters so much.

haha! for me, the movies are disappointments to the story. :( especially the last one-- the order of the phoenix. the last book was so great! exciting! especially the fight scenes there-- really tickles your imagination. :)

I am not a Harry Potter fan, don't know why. Never read any of the books nor seen the movies. My oldest son I think has seen a movie or two but hasn't read the books at all, says they are too long for him.

I never liked Harry Potter but like I mentioned in a thread saying that I'm a victim of identity thread, the person who's trying to imitate me posted up the nude picture of Daniel Radcliffe saying that how much he adores him for being naked... USING my name. And for goodness sake I am NEVER a fan of Harry Potter so naturally I won't care who Daniel Radcliffe is... So... He has failed to imitate me! Hahaha!

I love to read, but for some reason I have never read any Harry Potter books. I think the reason that I DON'T read it is because it is so popular. I am not the kind of person who gets into the lastest fads.

OMG I loved the Harry Potter book. It was amazing! I wish the series didn't end.
