Are phone signals likely to be lost during this hurricane?

The reason I ask is my parents are currently on holiday on Jamaica and for the past several hours, I have been unable to contact them. Watching live news though, supposedly the hurricane is not due to hit the island for another few hours so i'm thinking that signals may simply been lost due to the storm??

I am no expert but I would guess that the phones could definitely be affected by the weather, mass amounts of phone calls coming in and out of the area as well as electrical difficulties.

phone signals will probably be lost . most likely because of the amount of phone calls being made into and out of the area there

I was thinking there would be a lot of calls in and out of the country. No doubt they will be coming home earlier than expected now anyway.

Phone signals can indeed go down along with electrical power as well. Hope your parents make it home safe and sound.

As far as I am aware, the hurricane has now passed Jamaica and only went past the southern coast of the island.

Good to hear that. I used to be glued to e extremely aware of hurricane season because I lived on the coast in the south but i feel so disconnected being an ocean away. There aren't too many natural disasters happening where I am.

So have you heard from your parents since the hurricane went through? I hope everything is alright with them. I could not imagine being on vacation and a hurricane was coming. I did hear that the hotels are pretty well prepared though.

Yes, I have since heard back. Everyone there is ok, there was minimal damage and everyone is now working together to get things cleaned up.

Guess my parents didn't think they would be doing much cleaning whilst on holiday. It's good to hear that visitors are all pulling together and helping too
