How do you cut down on the amount of adult oriented spam you get in your blogs? Only two of my old posts seem to have an opening for these sick links. Any help would be appreciated. My comments are moderated, thank God!

Install a captcha or similar visual confirmation tool in your comment submissions. I use one that asks them to add two numbers and enter the result into a field that is submitted with their comments. The addition is as simple as 7 + 5 or something similar so people can always get it right but it stymie's the bots every time.

I use wordpress and have been fine with the default akismet spam plugin. It catches hundreds on a daily basis and rarely does anything get through. I think one slips by the goalie once every few weeks, but since all comments that are left generate an email I always see it almost right away and nuke it.

Captcha, as stymiee mentioned is also a great solution you can try. But for most sites simply running akismet or spam karma should do 99% of the trick (provided you are on a blogging platform that supports them that is).

Akismet works perfectly for me. I get about 1 spam comment through every 6 months.

Akismet works for me as well. I can't stand captchas, as I have a hard time filling them in sometimes (2 and 3 tries)

and with applications like pwntcha (http://sam.zoy.org/pwntcha/), you can see how effective most captchas can be.

I use Askimet and it has caught everything that I would consider spam.

I have huge spam problem also with my blogs, and these idiots keep posting stupid stuff in my comments. I don't think they realize that I have the nofollow tags:confused:

Akismet catches spam comments like "Oh are you interested in enlarging your [censored]?" LOL BUT we must constantly check our Akismet page though, because Akismet will consider a comment as a spam comment by checking their email addresses, so if your friend who has a personal email address like john@johnsite.com , he will then be grouped under SPAM so better check the spam box constantly.

I used to use Spam Karma and then switched to akismet and found it did a better job.
