Stopping Spammers

My friend has been getting alot of spam on her blog. How do you all stop the spammers or stay ahead of them anyway? Thanks

If you're using WordPress, sign up for Akismet, and then turn on comment moderation.

I screen all comments manually before I approve them, but that wouldn't be feasible on a blog that gets thousands of comments per day. I'll have to check into Akismet.

I'll second akismet for wordpress if that is the platform you use. I use akismet and no comment moderation at all, and akismet can catch upwards of 1,000 spam messages per day. Very rarely, maybe once a month or so a spam comment will make it through, but I figure at a ratio of 1 to 25,000, that is good enough :D

I moderate my comments, and that's really all I do. I can't keep them from trying to comment, but I can keep their comments from showing up.

Akismet is pre-installed into wordpress and they do a great job at stopping spam comments. And if you use blogger or anything else, switch to wordpress (wordpress has an import feature so you can easily).

Absolutely, I used both. I can only wish I had the kind of traffic where I couldn't moderate.
