View Full Version : Bloggers who blog about blogging

Am I the only one who really hates this? I guess it's worn on me after blogging on and off for 4 years.
I can't stand when someone's blog entries are all about blogging. No other form of communication seems to be as navel-gazing, as introspective, as meta as blogging. TV news anchors don't talk about the TV news industry every day on their broadcast do they? No, because it's boring as hell and nobody would tune in unless they fill up their half hour with a mix of current events and softball sports/celebrity stories like they do now.
Here's the deal: if I'm reading your personal site, I'm interested in the details of your life or your thoughts or something about you. If I'm on one of your topic-focused blogs, then I'm interested in the topic you write about.
Unless I'm on writeabetterblog.com or problogger.com I don't want to read about blogging or the blogging industry or awesome new bloggers or whatever. Just shut up and stick to the topic. Nowadays if I see more than one post-about-blogging, I drop the feed. I don't have time for your metacrap.

I'll second that. :)

I guess it depends on the site. If the person has always only talked about one topic, then yeah, it would bug me. But for people who's blog seems to cover every topic under the sun, then it really doesn't bother me.

It doesn't bother me as well. It's like writing the code and not putting any comments on it. :shifty:

People who blog about PHP bother me, I guess it's worn on me after programming on and off for 4 years....
see how silling that sounds?
Sorry t(-, but I completely disagree with you. Blogging is now a big topic for discussion, in fact it's what makes this forum possible.
I have no problem reading about the different blogging frameworks and why someone prefers one over the other. Or a great plugin that you just learned about and want to share or strategies that you think will help others or things to avoid or or or....
Blogging is another great web tool - why should we not talk about it?

I'm not saying that at all and I guess I could have been misinterpreted that way.
I just hate seeing a once-interesting personal/tech/whatever blog devolve into a "this is what's happening in the blogging world today" site. I've seen more than one person get caught up in blogging and it all of a sudden becomes the main topic on their blog. The occasional post on a new blogging trend or whatever is fine, but when that's all you end up writing about (and when your blog's topic was/is something other than blogging, like programming or cooking or politics) it really detracts from the original personality of the site imo.

Yet you joined a forum that is really only about blogging? Just an observation, not wanting to pick a cyber-fight. :)

I agree. I only blog about other bloggers if it's a mommy related thing. Otherwise I read blog about blogging sites. I don't really want that stuff on my site.
I found some excellent blogs about blogging. But a lot of "copycats' who are boring and just make no sense. I like reading about this since I am new to it, but from people who actually know what they're talking about, not some "hot shot" who wants to make it big and thought blogging is a well paying niche

I judge blog content by quality, not by quantity or topic.
Blogging about Blogging is fine. It's good if the post was constructive and helps fellow readers. I find such content more enjoyable when reading about someone's visit to Walmart last Saturday.

Woooo... Occasionally I did give some lil tips on blogging because my friends asked about it so I would make a post for them. Other than that it's my stories. :D

Sometimes you can pick up tips to spruce up your blog. Done the right way it could be like any other how to.

i disagree. blogging, just like any other activity, could be more effective with a little guidance.
my thoughts are as what aquariancore mentioned.

And yet, it draws traffic. That, and the word "lesbian".

I don't have a problem with blogs about blogging. I know that so many of these blogs are popular, and most likely helpful to somebody. I don't really read blogs about blogging, but they don't bother me at all. It's a topic that draws a lot of interest, just like any other topic.

Just for this, I am going to write a blog entry all about the wonderful world of blogging ;) - but hear me out. I plan on backing up my entry with statistics and pie charts. Everyone likes pie charts.
