Hey everyone...I know this is a question probably most suited to SP but I really can't bring myself to post in the forums there, being work and all. And my pride may have something to do with it :D:D
So, I am trying to download ICQ for my Mac. It will not work. It keeps opening word to try and run ICQ but obviously that isn't working.
I am not sure what to use to open the file. I am confused! Can anyone help me at all? I am new to Mac....
Any ideas will be appreciated :)

Step 1: throw your mac in the garbage
Step 2: install icq on a pc with no problem at all
:D Sorry, I just had to.

I can't help you out, Megan, but I will ask my fiancé about this, he is geekier than me.

I don't have ICQ but perhaps I can give you a hand as I am a Mac guy. ;)
First, make sure you are downloading the Mac version of ICQ: http://download.icq.com/download/mac/
When you download, does the installer download ok? (ie. are you able to open the installer and get ICQ installed, or is this when it opens up Word?) My guess is that the default application setting could be causing the problem. I've had a few .dmg (disk mount) files that appear that they want to be opened by HexEdit instead of Disk Mounter. Not sure why.
Another option for you (especially if you have other IM accounts in addition to ICQ) is to try out AdiumX (www.adiumx.com). That is what I use as it allows you to add your AIM, MSN, ICQ and other IM accounts into one window. Very handy to manage!

And if that doesn't work, you can do what I do when I'm at a public library - go to http://www.icq.com/download/icq2go/ and use their Web based version (I prefer the Flash interface to the Java one).

Thanks for your help guys... I am guessing that it is defaulting to word for some reason and to be honest I am not sure what to try and run the application with...
I will try installing one of the adiumx program because it sounds a bit more handy but it is going to have to wait until tomorow I am so fried right now.
