I'm sure we have all encountered this and it's just miserable when it happens. Dawud Miracle posted a great post on ways to combat writer's block (http://dmiracle.com/general/20-surefire-ways-to-beat-writers-block/) that I would recommend you reading.
For me a change of scenery often helps do the trick. What works for you?

My most severe case happened when I was, for once in my life, happy. I didn't have anything to moan about so I just stopped writing, drawing, taking photos... I think I may be one of those depressed moody artist people.
My solution was to start looking on the dark side of things again... It isn't incredibly healthy but it works for me. I self anaylse that much that it isn't to hard. I blog about the issues in my life.
Writing my 'Girl in the IT World' blog has proven a challenge for me because allthough aspects of my personality shine through it is hard for me to draw inspiration from a topic I know only a little about. I have to wait until I go to class to learn something to discuss it.

Good article!
If writing isn't working, I try design or writing on another topic. If that doesn't work I might play the piano or watch a movie. Taking a walk doesn't work for me because all the time I'm walking, I'm thinking about what to do. So I really need alternatives that put my thoughts in a different direction.
Another thing I do is keep a topics list and an 'ideas' folder. When ever I get an idea for something, I put it on my list and if I have more than just the idea, I outline what I have on notepad.

There are so many ways to combat writer's block, but what people don't realize it boils down to what works for you. Also what worked one time may not another. I know a writer who says sex is her her cure all.

Usually when I'm blocked, I'm also burned out. If I can take a couple of days off to regroup, it helps a lot. If I can't take a couple of days off, like if I'm working on a tight deadline, I do a lot of outlines so that all the information is right there in front of me and all I have to do is throw in a few "filler" words.
