Ah...this sucks. It's been a few weeks since this has happened to me so I guess i should be glad about that. I just can't turn my brain off.

Welcome to the club. I had that happen a few nights last week. My cure is some good irish whiskey. Of course you may not want to wake up in the morning, but hey, at least you can fall asleep :D

If only I had some! Luckily I work from home so if I am completely dragging in the morning it's ok. I was supposed to leave at 7:30 am (in 4.5 hours) though to go to my son's school and finish his registration. sigh....

Only 10PM here :)

But I'm still passing out, I have to wake up at 6. Good luck going to sleep :-/

It is 2:08 am here, and I can completely relate to you. The past few days I have had way to much on the brain and end up waking up in the middle of the night, so here I am.

Nearing quarter after 1 here. If you want, I can bore you to sleep, Sara.

Hmm... let's see what can I talk about. Well, there was this uneventful day sitting in front of my computer trying to turn it on wondering why the fans weren't working (just kidding - while there was a power outage, I'm not stupid)...

I haven't slept properly in weeks now. Too much going on. It's driving me nuts. Having the worlds most annoying snorer beside me isn't helping.

Having said that, sleep deprivation has it's benefits. Everything is hilarious to me at the moment. I haven't laughed so much in ages.

If you haven't tried it already, there's a relaxation technique that usually works for me. Start with your feet -- in fact, your toes. Concentrate on relaxing each one individually. Move up to your ankles, your shins, your knees and so on. I rarely make it to my head.

Yeah, loss of sleep makes you loopy. I experienced it again last night but i just laid on the couch and played sudoku for a few hours.

I have that problem alot. I tend to go over things in my mind over and over. It is worse if it is really quiet. I need the TV or radio or something when I get like this.

Usually when I hit that point of not being able to sleep it's because I'm thinking about all the things I need to get done. My solution is usually to get up and start working on some of them (if they're feasible to do at 3am) ... I'll either get something done or it will be at the point that I'm accomplishing something that I will get tired and able to go to bed. (of course then there's the dilemma of whether to go to bed or continue getting stuff done! :P )

If it were me, I would have to add "and fixing all the errors in the morning!" :o

Oh yeah... it would be morning already! Well -- you know what I mean (I hope)

I would recommend smoking something that may/may not be completely legal.....

...or may be completely illegal?

Hello fellow and sister insomniacs. I'm stressed out because of a situation going on at my day job (down to one social worker--me--and carrying a double caseload). I know I need to rest so I can be at the top of my game, but every time I lie down all my cases start whirling through my mind.

Luckily, I have a very understanding doctor who prescribed a low dose of Ativan to help me get through this period until my agency can get someone else hired. Until/unless it kicks in though, I guess I'm a member of the all-nighter's club.

Benzos don't just make me tired. They also make me kinda mean. But Atarax (hydroxyzine hydrochloride, a cheap, non-addictive, non-benzo anxiolytic/anti-psychotic/antihistamine with possible pain-reducing properties, that can be taken PRN) helps when the brain just won't shut up. Hate to take it, though, because a) if I'm not headed straight to bed, I'm useless, and b) I'm pretty close to useless the next day, too.

Well most people have been there done that and kicked off the habits like they were yesterday's underwear... I tend to sleep easier if I have a late night and have to get up early, it's like focusing the time in a weird unhuman way.

I wasn't suggesting it, I was clarifying Megan's point... ;)

This is always happening to me. I find myself unable to sleep until the early hours then somehow I still get up a few hours later.

And that's without my regualr dose of redbull!

Argh, you wouldn't believe it but just last night as I was going to bed I switched on the radio to set the alarm for the morning and the station was playing the theme tune to the "raggy dolls".

I don't know if it was broadcast anywhere other than britian, but its stupid inane themetune got stuck in my head as I was trying to get to sleep.

I'll reproduce it here for you

It's the Raggy Dolls (Raggy Dolls)
Raggy Dolls (Raggy Dolls)
Dolls like you and me
Raggy Dolls (Raggy Dolls)
Raggy Dolls (Raggy Dolls)
Made imperfectly

So if you got a bump on your nose or lumps on your toes
Do not despair
Be like the Raggy Dolls, and say I just don't care
Cause Raggy Dolls (Raggy Dolls)
Raggy Dolls (Raggy Dolls)
Are happy just to be
Raggy Dolls, Raggy Dolls
Dolls like you and me!

Not what you want in your head as you're trying to sleep!
