about a year and a half ago I deleted my account (on accident) on my host and lost all of my posts. I ended up writing a script to parse my pages that were in google cache to get my posts back. It was a major pita! Plus I was devastated!

I backup my blogs regularly now. Do you?

Yep. Right before every scheduled TypePad outage.
And the word "pita" makes me hungry.

Gee, I never thought of it, but I should. I back up my site on a regular basis, but not my blog, since the individual posts don't appear in my text/editor ftp account. How would you back up your database on a shared hosting plan?

I never have - I am one of those people who never save anything - I figure that if it is saved and immortalized on wordpress, what could go wrong?

From your wordpress admin panel, click on plugins. You should see the default wordpress db backup. Click that to activate it and then click on Options to manage it :)

Given that I have all of my files and databases backed up to a second hard drive on my dedicated server, I guess I'd say that I do back it up. I definitely learned the hard way with a client's database that didn't get backed up ... so now I make sure to back everything up no matter what it is.

Yeah I back everything up pretty consistently, but not on any specific schedule.

ExpressionEngine has a built in database backup solution and I also backup all my important files from my server to my local machine.

I did something similar about 2-3 years ago and lost a lot of posts. I got what I could back from Google. I learned my lesson :)

Good thing Google's there, I guess?

I back up all my major database-driven sites but I have yet to do it with a blog. I know I should, though.
