Has anyone picked any of these up? I have purchased "Blog Marketing" and Naked conversations, but have only read the Naked Conversations book. These are more geared to people who blog for business or some form of monetization but if you enjoy blogging and see the potential with it, Naked conversations would be good to have.

If anyone has any recommendations I'd love to hear them.

I recommend the SEO Book by Aaron Wall, it includes lots of information about promoting your Blog. Monetization is also mentioned. It's very interesting to read, believe me. it's worth the money!

I'll disagree completely. That book is a waste of money. It is full of misinformation that that Aaron outs in there just to make his book sensational. Unfortunately it is as the expense of his paying customers.

Read SEO Guide (http://www.websitepublisher.net/seo-guide/) by Chris Beasley. It's far more accurate and free.

I also removed your affiliate link which suggests that you don't really like his book but are simply recommending it to make money. Another reason to avoid his crappy book altogether.

I have never bought a book about web dev, design, blogging, SEO or anything like that and I'm doing just fine without them. Promoting your blog should be a community thing.

Oh I have a library of web dev and programming books..and yes, promoting your blog is a community thing, but there is also nothing wrong with trying to learn new things and when you read these books...you are learning from others experiences.

Well of course you'd recommend your own :p

For that you have to recommend something that isn't your own!

I'll download your ebook, and I'll tell you what I think.

Books can too easily become outdated by the time they're published. Especially on teh ever changing subject of web promotion.

Just collect a solid group of RSS feeds to bloggers that blog about it and read discussion forums. That way you're already at your computer and can easily implement the changes instead of saying "hmmm yeah I'll do that later when I'm on the computer".

Maybe it's just me.. but I like actually being away from the computer every now and than with a book. I even print out downloadable ebooks sometimes because it's nice to actually not stare at the screen all day. But.. that is my job so maybe that is why being able to step away from the computer actually appeals to me.

I read one, once. It involved this evil clown that became a giant spider in the sewers...
umm... nevermind...

nope , i havent really come across many books about blogging and i can't really imagine what they'd talk about that i don't already know or can find online. plus i have access to most web related books through the safari and some other book subscription online through my school so i normally just search for whatever is available in there. i only buy books if i think its really good ....or if its really pretty.

Same here. Internet writing is written to be so overly concise and scannable that you're never on one page for long. Every page is aiming to send you elsewhere etc. Don't get me wrong, the knowledge I've picked up from blogs astounds me still, but there are some things that are simply better said in a book.

It's nice when a person has given their complete thoughts on different concepts without worrying about their SEO keywords, bolding, linking out etc.

There are a few tech books I have that are worth their weight in gold. :D

I also don't read ebooks on the computer. I have a folder on my computer of the various free ebooks I've come across, and I've never read any of them. Some day I'll print them, but I doubt I'll ever be patient enough to read them on the screen. :(

Rose - I was thinking about getting Lorelle's book. I love her blog, and she was great at Wordcamp. The only thing putting me off is that because I'm living in the UK, I'd be paying about half the price of the book again on delivery. Is it worth it? Did you think the book was aimed at blogging basics, or some good concepts that everyone could learn from?

I would say that her book is definitely worth it. I was fortunate enough to get an autographed copy. That lady is so sweet.

Ive never actually read a book on blogging, though I do think every serious blogger or writer should read the office of assertion by Crider.

@Harrison: this doesnt sound right,"How To Earn US $5000+ Per Month From
Your Blog":D

I haven't read any books on blogging or even magazines just dedicated to the topic. However I have read in magazines a few articles on it. That is my offline reading is magazines, books do get outdated like others have said! I think blogs change so much all the time, a book would only be able to do the basics -- something that would bore most of us!

I seriously think a must read is Lorelle's book:
Blogging Tips: What Bloggers Wont Tell You About Blogging (by Lorelle VanFossen) : The Blog Herald (http://www.blogherald.com/shop/blogging-tips)

I've read both SEO Book and SEO Guide - both are great reads and neither are necessarily right or wrong. Much of SEO is theoretical anyway.

As far as books on the subject are concerned though, I've found that reading forums and other blogs are a better use of my time. By the time a book is published, some of it is likely out-dated IMO.
