Sorry. I'm not having a great day, today. It's hot as hell, and the 'net is slow. I just set up a private blog (something I should've done months ago) for moaning and complaining that doesn't belong on my public blog. I was wondering if any of you maintain private or semi-private blogs, and if you've seen any (obviously non-financial) benefit from it.

When you say private, do you mean anonymous or just not connected to your main blog?

I've had a blog where I said anything that came to my mind, this was anonymous and it was just a place to vent. That would be the only real benefit.

I think it is a great benefit...Just be careful because it can make people perceive you in a different way. When you are blowing of steam and procrastinating you tend to rant and even though it feels good to let it all out - people may think you are just nuts. It could discredit your 'serious' blog.

I think having a seperate blog would equate to one having a journal where you write down your thoughts feelings and what not. Correct?

My private blog is my dog. When I need to vent or just talk, I talk to him. He always listens and never asks questions.

Yep, which is why mine was anonymous.

3plus3: Yep. Except writing things down is a bad idea. I LOSE notebooks all the time. Deleting stuff is much easier.

Jeremy: My dog is sort of in a bad way, right now. He's got problems of his own.

As far as discrediting goes, well, hell, I'm not real credible, now. By "private", I mean "set up so that only I can read it", at least for now. Via one of the free blog hosters. These things are fairly secure, right?

I normally blog for money so having a blog that visitors can't get to won't make me any money. wehn i have to bitch and moan I just go to the girlfriend and she has to hear it:)

I have never thought about having a private blog. I would imagine if I had a blog that was like a diary type one and I was afraid someone would find it this would be a good way to go.

I posted one "private" blog once on my personal blog. Reason being was that I complained a lot about a friend of mine who had hurt me, and wanted to hide it (she read my blog though)

It's a very similar situation, Rhys. :)

Thanks, guys.

This would be the first time I hear about something like this. All my blog posts are public and I am so clueless in many aspects I just don't know how to make one private :D

I think I'll stick with the public style for a while. I don't like to hide content

My blog is private. I get the benefit of having somewhere to vent as well as the enjoyment I get from writing.
