Morning all,
Here's a question for you guys and gals, do you ever turn comments off on post after a set period of time? Like after x amount of months you turn the comments off?
Anyone do that and if so why?

No, I haven't done that before and probably won't as my blog is not that popular.
However, my thinking why some people do it would be:
1. Spam
2. Topic is old and it already had huge discussion in comments and it got outdated to talk about it
3. Flame disuccions that got out of the hand.
I might be completly wrong here, but that's what it seems to be the reason behind some blog posts which has comments turned off.

I've never done it, but have seen it done and wondered about it myself. I like when someone finds an old post of mine from a year ago and makes a comment about it. It shows me that the content is still relevant.

I have done it a few times when I start getting repeated SPAM comments to a post, then I will get tired of deleting this SPAM so I close the comments.
I've never even thought about it, but I guess it makes sense now that I have.

I turned off comments on an old blog I had stopped updating; I wanted the content to stay out there, but spam was creeping in past Akismet.
Amazing coincidence... just after making my last post in this thread, I got a comment on a post I wrote almost a year ago. It was a legit comment.
Get this... there is a guy in the UK that is on annual leave so he has decided to read my blog from beginning to end. WTF? I've been writing daily for almost 2 years!

Maybe he likes chicks that can kick ass? ;)
Even if I was in love with me I don't think I'd waste my holiday time reading my blog from beginning to end!

I think there could be times you want to just end a topic and close the comments. For example, I've seen people who have posted quick tutorials in their blog and 2 years later when it doesn't work anymore (because of 3 version upgrades) you get people asking why it didn't work.
I actually had an old blog post that described how to work around a WEP issue on a Mac (needing to put an '$' in front of the password) and would still randomly get someone writing a comment thanking me for the tip. It's kind of nice to occassionally get those ... but now that I started fresh, that won't happen for a while.

That would be a good example. Of course, you should also edit that original post explaining that.

I haven't done that but I think some people do because the entry doesn't need a comment or a reaction from her audience or just plain drama.
heh.

I don't generally turn off comments unless I'm getting tons of spam, which isn't usually. I like the feedback that comments provide, even if the discussion is old. I like to hear what others have to say.

Don't plan on it,but sometimes spam becomes too much so it is not worth having comments nay longer.
