What kind of server are you on here, a home box? Man, the pages load extremely slow. I mean several seconds, maybe even 20 or 30 seconds slow. If you are on a VPS or private server, you can ask for server optimization ideas at the vBulletin.com forum. If you are on a shared server, maybe you should consider one that's a bit quicker.

I'm liking it here. I just wanted to let you know this is a real distraction.

That's weird - my connection is generally pretty poor, but I don't have any problem in particular with this site, certainly not 20-30 second waits.

EDIT: I disabled Adblock Plus to see if that ads made any difference... didn't change anything at all though.

I don't use ad blocking of any sort. Twenty or 30 second waits don't occur on every page. This page actually loaded quite fast. But many pages take several seconds to load. I visit many forums a day and have been using forums of all kinds for 15+ years - as a member, staffer or administrator. The page loads here are unusually slow.

If the server is based in Europe someplace, that could very well account for the slowness for me (in California) and the speed for you (in Scotland).

Everything loads just fine for me and always has.

This place has always been slow for me. And I don't know why either, because my net connection is great and everything loads quickly for me elsewhere. I just assumed it was something with the site and it's not 'that' bad, so I never said anything. I usually just go to another tab and come back.

Thanks for the feedback and I'm not sure what it could be. I have a dedicated server with extremely low-traffic sites on it so that can't be the issue and this site itself is no where near busy enough. I would definitely love to hear more feedback on others who experience this.

I turned on database-based sessions several months ago at the request of some users so that might be something that slows it down, but that was something everyone who commented was happy to see in place. I'll try and see what other things could be causing it. Thanks!

As long as you're on a dedicated server, it sure wouldn't hurt to see what George can suggest at vB.com. It takes a little while to compile the data for the optimization request, but from what ever'one says, it's well worth it.

When pages load slowly for me, it is usually because a page has too many animated ads and tracking programs with it. The next thing that slows them down is too much flash, and I have cable!

I have never had this problem either on here. Thank goodness because I hate when pages load slow. But they usually load slow for me like the above poster stated when there are a lot of flash ads on the page.

I've had problems with the forum loading slowly, and each time I've noticed it was due to the Urchin script taking forever to load at the end of the page. I've noticed it on both dialup (which I used to have) and broadband (which I now have). But the problem is intermittent - think of it as rolling the dice in Vegas. Sometimes you get lucky (like the New York Giants) and other times you just get screwed (like the San Diego Chargers).

Yesterday everything on the site was loading pretty slowly for me, but today everything is fine.
