I really like stock.xchng - the leading free stock photography site (http://www.sxc.hu)!

I usually use Yotophoto | Find free photos... fast! (http://yotophoto.com/)
Flick.r
They have a section where images are available for use as long as you give attribution.
Flickr photos with a Creative Commons Attribution License (http://www.flickr.com/creativecommons/by-2.0/)
They have other options up to paying but at the moment I'm a povo.

From my camera, a screen capture or a Google image search... but mildly edited in Photoshop.

I take my own photos. I have probably used fewer than 5 photos that I didn't take myself.
BTW, all the photos in my Flickr pool are Creative Commons. You only have to provide a link back to me to use whatever you want.
Granted, they are all sort of travel or place related, but they are there for the using if you want.

Google image search generally. In the near future I'll be getting a new digital camera so I'll be taking a lot of my own photos at that point.

Thanks all for the sxc recommend. I've been using fotolia and istock. Fotolia is only a buck an image, but iStock is getting pricier everytime I go there. It's always great to have another option.

No, but that's because I haven't taken anyone's photo when I'm not allowed. If you read the licenses carefully, you can make sure to avoid that. There are so many great pictures out there where people don't mind you using them for free. Just don't get them off google images as you never know where they may come from and what the rights are!

Same here. Very nice site.
I'm going to start looking through Flickr though. For whatever reason, it never occurred to me to browse Flickr for photos, but now that I realize you can use photos from there as long as you give credit to the source, I'll start looking.
EDIT: Actually, on Flickr, is it just certain photos that you can use as long as you give credit, or can you use any as long as you give credit?

If you can use any, i definitely wouldn't post my pictures there even if they gave credit. I have no desire to have my family pictures show up on some website even if credit is given. I would think that would be a bad business model.

Well, you can upload pictures and make them "private." Although, I don't know how much private they actually are? You know how that goes.
Yeah, I really don't upload anything of importance to flickr. I don't want family photos and such showing up everywhere.

i got this problem when i exceeded at Photobucket's bandwith limit so i got no choice but to upload it again to another hosting site, and what bothers me is it might affect in my image results page since my pics really drives traffic into my blog

All of my photos were taken by me. No one else. The problem with that method is that I feel like I always have to take the camera with me. Sort of a drag but oh well... I've been very happy a few times that I had it.

Well yeah, the tedious part would be figuring out what kinda picture suits the topic and how to get it. :)
It does make it more challenging for myself though, challenging my the photographer side of me.

I take all my own with a digital camera and usually tune them up on Picasa or Photofiltre.
I have a dislike of stock photos-if I use an image in a post I want it to be taken by me.
For instance if you were writing about candy or coffee it's much more fun to do a little photoshoot then to try to find the appropriate image on a stock photo site...
I admit I've thought about resorting to a stock image when I forgot to snap the pic when I should have.
Lately I've been writing about my recipes and I wish I would stop and take a picture while I'm cooking. But then I'd feel like I was cooking so I could do a post about it,lol.

My sites are mostly about video games, so most of the images I use are either images released by the games' publishers or screenshots I took myself.
Otherwise I use various free stock sites and istockphoto.

I always wondered how people took screenshots of video games. Do you just take a picture of the screen with your camera?
Jelena

I think I took screenshot of a game once or twice, for the record sake, because I finished it up and wanted to have a proof. :D
I finally have my own camera, so I should be taking my own pictures from now on. Before that, I would check stock.xchng as many of members here.

Happens to me all the time since i own flickrville.com, but after expalining to them that i'm not "stealing" but rather just displaying their work (gallery), than they get softer and don't mind me using it on the site.

I get most of my images from the actual site that I am blogging about. I don’t know where else could I found any images other than the site itself.

There is a couple of ways, Print Screen, some times works, there is software that films your screen, using a still from that can be effective.
What I have used in the past, is screen capture software and set a button on my mouse to take the screenshot, the name of the program escapes me.
As for images, all images are copyright to the owner. Therefore you must ask permission, this applies to flikr to, unless the author has stated they are free or it has a creative commons licence, which must be followed, e.g attribution. Use advanced search on flikr to find images with creative commons licences and you can't go to wrong! :)

I guess I was thinking of games that are played on the TV and aren't hooked up to a computer. How do they get the pictures from there?

I generally prefer Google images, but other than those I try to search for free photos online which are available to use. I don't pay for any of the images on my blog and tend to generally use the freely available ones online.

I usually go to stock.xchng first to look for photos. I also like to use the Creative Commons image search at search.creativecommons.org.
Recently though, I came across a promotion at iStockphoto where you can get 5 free credits. I have slowly been using up my five free photos there.
The promotion is still there if you want to get them yourself go to istockphoto.com/hunt. you will need to register if you don't already have an account. All you need to do to get the 5 free credits is locate 4 hidden istockphoto logos.
They were a headache to find, so if you need any help locating them, just let me know.

I use some of my own but mainly I use Google images. I have never thought of Flickr. I just always thought you wouldn't be allowed to use them.

You can get TV cards for your computer that allow you to connect a console and play it through your computer, so then you can take screen shots in the same way.
I think screenshots taken this way could be considered fair use, since they're such a small part of a game, but I guess that's always a blurry issue.
I mostly use photos from Flickr, released under a creative commons attribution license.
I noticed people asked about this earlier in the thread, and the answer is no, not all photos on flickr have to be creative commons licensed. You can find out about each type of creative commons license and search for flickr photos released under a particular license here (http://www.flickr.com/creativecommons/).

I get product photos from the company selling the products and create my own images and banners using Paint Shop Pro.
I set my widgets to show images that accompany blog entries.
