Getting readers from old posts

Quite often when I search for something, I will come upon an old blog post (a year or older) that gives me the info I need. If I have a few minutes, I will typically stay and look around a bit.

I have had a couple of regular readers/commernters do the same on my blog which is cool. Sometimes when we write, we don't think about people finding out posts months or years from now.

Has this happened to you? Whether you were the reader or it was your blog?

Besides regulars reading my latest posts, my most viewed posts are ones from a year ago as the visitors are coming via search engines. My multiple if statements and switch statement is probably the most viewed after my recent posts. This is one reason why having categories on your site and also displaying the last X posts in the sidebar is a good idea so that someone maybe wanting to read more posts on the same subject will click through to the category, or perhaps a recent post could catch their eye.
