I have been researching PageRank (basically since it was established to the public) and have gotten tired of all the new and old Ad agencies relying on PageRank as a qualifier for how much they should pay out.

It's a little lengthy but I'd like some feedback on it

Ad agencies such as Text Link Ads aren't using PR as much of a measure anymore. A site of mine that used to have PR4, dropped to a 2 and now 1, had a price drop after the drop to PR 2 but it's now back up at the same price as it was for PR4. Nothing much else has changed. Since the recent PR batterings TLA has noticed that relying on PR is not a good idea so have clearly made moves to depend on other information.

As for PR, well right now it's just a mockery what with various sites now displaying zero PR. If they want to reduce or remove the effect selling links has on PR then why still make it public?

Yah I noticed that about TLA, but some others are still relying on it heavily. As far as the "corporate" world is concerned PR is still a viable scale for popularity.

I think the real mockery is that Google continues to try and penalize people for using TLA(among others) when those agencies typically rely on PR in the first place.

Google never should have made PR public... IMHO.

Great article, Mark. Commented and stumbled. It's about time more people debunked the page rank myth!
