Well, I guess I should be willing to take it if I plan on dishing it out. I'll start with my personal blog first.

ilovecode (http://www.ilovecode.com/)

Goals: I don't really have a goal for this blog. It's just kind of a place where I talk about what I'm doing web-wise or not.

Design: I recently put up a new design. It's kind of girly which is unlike me but I really loved it and thought it was unique. Do you have any feedback for me on that?

Layout: This is probably where I need the most help. I should move my feed up as discussed in a different post. Is the random question from my Ask Me page intrusive? How about the random search terms. That was a plugin I wrote for myself and thought it was kind of neat.

anything else?

I like your design, although I wish there was a little more contrast such as a darker shade of the cyan in your header hr and your hx attributes. I also noticed that your body white background loads after the header. Until it loads, it makes your header look out of place.

I wondered why the two search boxes? I like the design you put to the one in your header. The colors of the other don't seem to play well with your site colors.

I think your random search terms and random 'ask me' question are a hoot. I also like your line, "Tired of seeing the same question?"

I do like it but I think the blog post title needs to be a little darker.

I think the second search box you are referring to is:

That is actually a link to search-this.com, not a real search box. Interesting to know thought that was your impression. May have to rework it or create a new image for it.

Your sidebar never shows up on the side for me. At 1024x768 and below, it gets crammed down below all the posts for some reason. If I drag the window a few pixels wider, it jumps up top where it belongs.

Wow..thanks for the screenshot. I'll see what I can do about that.

ok it should be fixed for 1024x768 in all browsers now. the sidebar will be pushed down in 800x600, but 1% of my readers use that or below.

It's too cluttered at the end of a post when you're looking at a list. I don't see why the summary needs all that junk...

THEN ANOTHER BIG TITLE

Make people click thru to the full post to get that stuff or a pseudo-dropdown list or whatever because it makes my eyes bleed and I'm too poor for dry cleaners.

Well, i want all of that stuff on there. Since I'm showing the full post on the index, there is no incentive for them to click to get to the single post. So I need to make it easy for someone to submit it to those sites.

I think your blog is a good place to go for an overall summary of your forum. You point out things that we may otherwise miss while we are posting things back and forth.

Why is the sidebar at the bottom of the page?

Must be your resolution. Out of my audience less than 1% uses lower than 1024x768 so that is who I designer it for. If your's is that or higher, it shouldn't be at the bottom. But if it's lower, than I am aware of that.

I believe in designing for all audiences for if you don't then you might be loosing out. I view at 800 x 600.

Sorry sara. your sidebar dropped on the fox at 800 x 600. I like your site though.

Do you design for the PDA audience? Because I know that percentage of users on my blog is higher than those that use 800x600. I don't believe you need to design for everyone, you just need to be aware that you could be losing out on an audience and be willing to accept that. Same goes for the folks on 640x480. I know I used to browse all of the time on my treo before I moved. Unless you have multiple stylesheets, i would bet most people(including yourself) aren't designing for all audiences.

I think the site looks very nice Sara. Everything is nicely organized and easy to read.

Like others have said, I would change the color of the article titles. You can read them, but they could also pop more. Maybe change them to #9A1448 with the current blue color as the hover color?

The spacing between the content and sidebar is a little wide for my liking but my resolution is 1680x1050 and I'm sure you don't have many browsing that high.

Overall, nice site. In fact, I'm making a comment on your latest article now (if it lets me that is).

I like the site. Don't know what changes you've made since I last looked, but I think you made the right ones. :)

I don't think many people design for 800 X 600 or below anymore. Those small res sites look like pooey on the larger monitors... at least they do in mine.

800x600 is almost obsolete.

you dont have to cater to Everyone.

Yeah, I don't anymore. I seem to always use fixed with designs and I make sure they fit in 1024. Just not many people using 800x600.
