An alternative to Askimet, Defensio (http://defensio.com/) is a new spam filter. Anyone try it yet?

Nope, haven't tried it. Doesn't look bad though.
I've only received one spam comment thus far, so until I start receiving more, I don't think I'm going to change the current system

It does look good, but Akismet has done the job for me so far.

There's an old saying that goes "If it ain't broke, don't fix it. However if you're the government, then feel free to fix it until it's broken." So no, I haven't tried it, and I have no intention to either.

I don't know, I was gonna try it when at first I thought it worked in conjunction with Askimet than when they said to disable Askimet I decided against it.

Haven't heard of it before now. Lately I have had akismet catching spam that wasn't spam and it's getting annoying, and it might be enough to make me try another system.

So far, Akismet is doing the work for me. As Dan said, I still don't have a need for something else. However, if anybody is willing to test that new plugin, I would definitely like to hear how it went.

I like akismet. I've recently had someone that leaves lists of links in comments with cute little comments at the top like "Nice!" "Interesting". If it wasn't for akismet, I'd be monitoring constantly. I will check into the new one though.

I am constantly getting the same...It's either "Nice", "Interesting" or "Cool". Akismet has caught every one of them though so I see no need to go switching. If I ever see the need to switch to something new though, I will be giving that a try.
I'm getting alot of Nice Guestbook... at the moment and the sod is using proxies so his IP is different every time.
Akismet was doing it's job fine for me, but it is currently down according to the WP mailing list :(

Thanks, great article. It looks like this is going to be promising in the future. If I ever go about setting up a different blog, I'll give this a try.

Thanks for the link, Sara. It's a very well-written article and I loved the Monty Python vid. I "dugg" it. :)
