We've spoken about whether you keep blogs in your reader even if they don't get posted to, what about on your Blogroll? Or do you run through the list on occasion and remove those that don't seem to be writing anything any more?

Unless a site has some really great content, if it seems like the owner has stopped posting then I tend to remove the link after a while. Of course if they started back up then I'd re-add them.

I don't have a blogroll on my blog, but if I did, I think I'd be much more watchful of how often the updates are.

If I'm going to recommend a blog to my readers, it has to have good content of course, but it also has to be still alive... xD

You make a good point! I have two blogs and different blogrolls on them, and I know I have to update one of them, because 2 of the links are outdated. Thanks for reminding me!

I have a blogroll currently which is basically just a list of blogs I traded links with when I first started blogging and was trying to get some exposure. Honestly, I've not went through the list in a while to even see if the sites are still up to date or not or even still have my link on their site. I need to do that. :)

I've abandoned my blogroll as of late. I always forget to add people, and I occasionally find links to sites that have been dormant for months. One of these days I need to go in and add some of the other great sites I read.

I neglect my blogroll. My blogroll is a separate page but i usually go in and update every couple of months. It's been since July though ...I'm overdue!

I use my blogroll to promote the rest of my websites! So all the links bring users to other project that I have going :)

I don't keep a public blogroll really. I used to have a short one and then condensed it with another list into one short list of "other places to visit." There are under a dozen sites showing and I just went through them a few days ago to weed out any I know longer liked or that didn't work any more.

I don't keep a blogroll. With all of the penalization talk, I opted to take the safer route and just wrap links that I like in the content.

I didn't even think of that. I generally only put something in my list of links if it's a respected blog but I should go through and check the posting of each anyway.

Glad I've maybe reminded a few people to check on theirs! :D

I have a blogroll but it's on a page of it's own.

I've created a random blogroll plugin just to show my supporters and the sites i support i remember them. :)

I appreciate it when people add me to their sites and I would return the favor by adding them to my roll.

I didn't have any at the start in fact, it's just that as more people added me and also more sites that I like - I just have to put them some where.

No blogroll yet. At least no links to any blogs. I d have two categories in use though, a forumroll in my sidebar and an Interesting posts on others blogs that shows under my featured post. I have no plans to add any direct links to blogs any time soon.

I do like to have a blogroll. I think is nice to provide further reading for your readers. I think this creates synergy among blogs (which is different from link farming, of course).

I recently reviewed the concept of blogroll and found out that having it on the sidebar, showing only the title was more or less useless, because more often than not, the name of the blog is not interesting enough (http://www.z-oc.com/blog/2007/10/the-right-amount-of-information-to-make-them-useful/).

So I've put the blogroll on a separate page (http://www.z-oc.com/blog/blogroll/), showing ALL the WP fields for the blogroll, including the feed and the favicon.

(the layout was much more beautiful, until I found out that IE screwed it up and I have to take it back until I have time to fix it)

I don't have a blogroll on my blog, but if I did, I think I'd be much more watchful of how often the updates are.

I agree with that, if a blog looks dead, it should be taken off. Still, the main focus is quality and not quantity for me.

My blogroll is basically the websites that I go to every day. I don't treat it as a place to put links that I think people should look at. If anything its a place for people to see what links I look at on a daily basis and nothing more.

In fact a good portion of the blog section of my links are my friends blogs that haven't been updated in months. But they are my mates blogs and they will stay there until they change their blog host if they ever start blogging again :)

I try to keep a good watch on mine since it's where I'm suggesting my readers go next. Yet, it is one of those things off to the side that's easy to overlook.

I check my blogroll every once a month just to see how things are with the blog i'm linking to and sad to say some have died off and i had to remove them.

I use my blogroll all the time - it's like my bookmarks almost.
What can be frustrating is I never seem to get others to add our blog to their blogroll. I mean come on, does zeldman really need another link people :)

Sorry for the little self promotion here, but I've published a plugin to create powerful blogrolls (http://www.z-oc.com/blog/powerblogroll/), just like the one I commented previously on this thread.

I hope is of any use ;)

Actually I hadn't. It's been some time that I don't develop anything for blogger since I moved to Wordpress a while ago. It might be a good idea, though...

I do have a blogroll and I see the purpose of it. Visitors to your site can visit some of those blogs and hopefully find useful content. Of course provided that blogroll links are actually relevant.

Links I added on my blog are other blogs that I think have useful content for my visitors. I am also open to suggestions so if you have a blog that is about same topic as mine let me know.

I do keep a blogroll.

1) All sites are travel related.

2) Sites which I like regardless if they link back to me.

3) Sites which are willing to link to me in exchange.

I keep everything related to travel. Currently it is all blogs of people who are traveling, but I might expand it to site specific blogs for places I've been as well.
