I just saw this over at SP: Established Blog For Sale (http://www.sitepoint.com/marketplace/auction/15329)

A blog about blogging for sale. Someone made the "Buy It Now" offer, so we will see what happens. The blog does pretty well considering it's only a few months old.

The thought has crossed my mind, but the price would have to be quite significant to make it worthwhile. While the money would be nice, a blog can be a tremendous branding tool. Once you sell it, you lose that. If the goal is just to start a site, put in a few months worth of work, and turn it around for a profit, that is certainly one way to do it.

Building a history and a strong brand with your site can provide years of potential recognition, money, fame, etc. If the blog is an extension of who you are and a means to expand your expertise or career, it is hard to put a price tag on it.

I could never sell *my* site but I'd be more likely to sell off any of the other sites I work on. My site is my name and my brand. It'd have to be a lot of money to give that up.

update.. looks like it was sold for 6k. Not a bad price for a 4-month old blog.

I know what you mean about the branding aspect of it. That is something that would be very hard to put a price on. Branding is something that have long-term benefits rather than the short-term.

I would definitely sell if the price was right, but it would have to be RIGHT if you know what I mean. lol. I actually like blogging and have no intention of selling though. I guess if I ever get to a point where I hate to blog and don't care to publish websites anymore I might sell (but I don't see that happening). My blog has helped me to network with some incredible people and I continue to meet more and more each day. I'm sorry I didn't start it sooner.

Naa, never. My blog is the center of my online identity. It's one thing to build up other online ventures, but the blog is the one place where it's all me. You can't really put a value on that sort of reputation. :D

I heard about the auction on another blog today as well, and I was really shocked at how much it sold for! NorthxEast only sold for $8000, and it had quite literally 10 times the number of subscribers. :o

6k? sweet.

I have quite a few blogs so yes i would consider selling some but i don't think i will ever sell wordpress related blog, it has helped me gain many many contacts and work, i agree that branding has long term benefits to it.

I guess it depends on what your blog is about. For me it wouldn't make sense to sell my blog as it's about my thoughts on user experience and the like, with my name as the brand. If however the site was about cheese (as an example) and wasn't tied to me as a person then it could make sense

My blog is a little thing that I have fun with... I don't think anyone would be interested in buying it. After reading some comments here, I guess I would like to keep it as a "branding" tool... who knows?

there are so many blogs for sale at the moment. Maybe now is the time to sell blogs, but I want to build mine up.

This is quite surprising they are selling at that sort of price given the fact that they were both relatively new.

There are so many blogs about "blogging for money" out there that the good stuff really gets lost. I think seeing these sales will only make the signal to noise ration worse unfortunately.

No, I never considered selling any of my blogs (because I spend so much time developing them and the money i get can't possibly be worth the effort) but I did buy a blog once. I regretted it though, because right after I bought it, the images all disappeared because apparently they were all from this one site, and that site shut down :(

I don't sell anything. Already rejected a 11000 USd offer for my main forums and it would have been good money. My sites are mine, I don't sell :D

I don't want to sell it. Not because nobody would buy it (which is true), but because it's my personal thing. Wouldn't want to see someone else behind that identity. If I were to have blog on particular subject and got bored with it, sure I would sell it!

I can't believe some of the blog sales lately. Such as One Man's Goal and Cash Quests, this one just sold for 15,000$. I don't have the subscribers or income to sell my blog. Plus I'm kind of fond of it. I also think too many people are starting to jump on the blog selling bandwagon and will over saturate the market kind of like flipping houses. But the possibility of selling a blog will always be an option at some point now that I know there is a market out there. Not for my main blog but possibly for some other projects. :)

It is Emma, but you also see some decent blogs selling for $300 - $500. A lot of it has to do with how well you can sell the blog to potential buyers. It looks like the following blog is going to be for sale soon too:

The Giving Hands (http://thegivinghands.org/)

It's by pelf if any of you have seen her around the blogosphere.

I agree Sara. I noticed if you have a good traffic and revenue month, and then post the stats, it seems to spark a lot of interest. Page rank and subscribers don't hurt either. I'm not sure if all of the buyers will be able to capitalize on their investments as much as they think. But they must have some kind of plan, since they paid thousands of dollars, instead of just starting a fresh site, and waiting for the next page rank update. But, I still have a lot to learn so it will be fun watching as it all unfolds.
